I'm thinking of getting a better 2.1 speaker setup for my PC, and was wondering if anyone's got or tried Logitech's Z-2300's? If so, how did you like them?

I don't really want to spend much more than what these would cost, as I'm looking for a really good 2.1 set that is still affordable. I bring up the 2300's because I've heard some positive feedback from people who have tried them, but wasn't sure overall how they stacked up.

Currently I'm using some fairly jank Edifier 2.1 speakers that if I remember right didn't run me anything over $60. I figure it's time for an upgrade, but like I said I don't want to get too carried away. I am on a budget of sorts.

Thanks for any input.

Street price or retail for the Z-2300? On ebay you can get the Klipsch iFi for $200. It has superior satellites (2-way with tweeter and 3.5" midrange) and a superior subwoofer (a great sub with the RW-8 driver that's [supposedly] flat to 30hz).

If you can get the Z2300's for cheap get it. I wouldn't pay over $100 for those.

Ok...on the Logitech site the price is listed at $229.99 (I'm in Canada)...any suggestions on where I can grab them for $100? I'm sure eBay, but any alternatives? I don't have a problem with eBay, but I usually look elsewhere first.

Also, I'll look into prices on the Klispch set too. Thanks.

For the price of a Z-2300 ($120 street price?) you can also get the Altec Lansing MX5021s.

The Z-2300s have a single 2.5" driver per satellite. The Altec Lansing MX5021s are two-ways with a 1" tweeter and dual (2x) 3" midrange drivers.

I've heard both (granted not at the same time), and while both are a bit bloated in the bass (as most desktop subs are), I felt the MX5021s are cleaner in the midrange (3KHz to 8KHz) due to the dedicated tweeter which can handle these frequencies with less distortion. Dual 3" drivers also means significantly lower midbass distortion.

Not saying the MX5021s are clearly superior or everyone will like them better, but I preferred them.

I bought the Z-2300s last Tuesday. They were returned by Thursday and replaced with Klipsch Promedia 2.1's. I found the Z-2300s to be terrible; not only do these replacement Klipsch's produce better sound, but I paid $10 less for them, too!

I think I'm going to be going with the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's after careful consideration. Appreciate all the feedback :)

Good thing I didn't go ahead and buy the Logitechs.

I'd recommend the Altec Lansings, You'll get good sound quality and great longevity. I'm still using an old pair of their powercubes from about 6 years ago, and they still sound awesome, good enough to displace my cambridge soundworks bookshelf speakers & onkyo amp setup from the computer space because they sound great and take up less space around my pc. Logitec's z-xx00 series seem to be based on being overly loud and kinda lack against speakers tuned for less power when both are at reasonable listening volumes.

eBay is the best bet since the exchange rate is to your advantage. If you buy within Canada you pay what would be 50% more than in the US.
