Newegg is having a one-day sale on these for $51.50 and free shipping. I've been looking to replace my $30 Wal-Mart Altec Lansing 2.1 system, and was wondering if I should jump on this deal.

Anyone have experience with these? I don't really need a surround sound system but $50 is the most I'd like to spend on new speakers. What are your thoughts?

Some people complain about short wires, speaker shape, and having all the connections on the right speakers.

Any suggestions? I've looked at Logitech's Z-3 and X-230, and various other sets, but I just can't get myself to feel 100% comfortable with anything.
 
I've got the X-530s and they are a sweet set of speakers. The sub alone is worth it. If you can deal with the hassle of setting up 5.1 speakers right, then go for it definatly.
 
If I were buying a $50 speaker set, I'd look pretty closely at the Z-3 Amazon is running a pretty good deal on the aluminum-faced version. During off-peak retail hours, go to a local Circuit City/CompUSA/BestBuy with a couple familiar CDs. See if you can listen to some things. Then buy thme online to save money. :)
 
you people dont realise that $50 logitech speaker are worth way more then you may think they fucking thump,i had there older 5.1 discontinued set and they were good, the new one i jus bought and they kick ass for $50
 
Yes. They do "fucking thump". That's part of what I don't like about them. The sloppy, boated, farting bass. It makes me think of one of my ex-roomates after a keg party.

haha well you know there is a knob on the back of the sub to turn bass down,ontop of that theres options within the computer also. and the $50 2.1 set from logitech has the same sub so live with it lol
 
The X-530s actually dont have the gross bass, which was a worry of mine when I bought them because I'd heard about it on the earlier models. I'm very pleased with the rich, smooth bass this set's been giving me. Tommorow I'll be getting my Audigy 2. :)

buy them there the best you get at $50, wires for 2 rear speaker are short to some people to mount on the closest wall, me it was but i decided to mount on my ceiling lol
 
i've been looking for a reasonable 2.1 set too, but something always seems to be wrong.

the best set i could find was the Logitech 2300's, they were perfection, but they were also about 100 bucks. Normally i'd be cool with the Z-3's or the X-230's as an alternative, but unlike the 2300's they have the bassnob on the back of the sub, a very annoying inconvenience (for some reason they decided to put the nob on the volume control pod for the 2300's).

then there's everything else....the altec lansings VS3121's are said to have insane interference issues, the 4121's are a "bit pricey" considering they get mixed reviews and are still "tweetys" with a very crappy expirimental mid range at the base.

then there's creative, also very lackluster, mostly tweety sets for the more expensive, and really cheapy looking for the regular ones in the form of the inspire line.

frankly it makes me want to cry, all i want is for the Logitech 2300's to get cheaper, or for logitech to release a cheaper 2.1 set with all the nobs where the sattelites are.
 
my point exactly, but all the other cheaper 2.1 sets out there seem to have something wrong with them.
 
I'm familiar with the problem that GodsMadClown is talking about and it is manageable. It's like whenever you expand stereo to all 5 channels the sub will pool the low frequency signals going to all of them and it begins to get excessively loud. Best way to deal with this is to enable some form of bass management within the drivers or the software program doing the stereo expanding or just turn down the bass in software because the manual sub controls don't do much to help at times. I use foobar and channel mixer (as well as bass management in the audigy drivers) and it works ok for me now.

Either way the x-530 is a great value and will outdo, in my opinion, any similarly priced 2.1 or even the majority of sub $100 systems for that matter. If you're coming off a relatively good system though you might miss a bit in the highs, but the midrange is excellent and the bass isn't that bad either.
