Logitech MX700 problems

Heres the deal. Just got the Logitech Keyboard and Mouse Duo, keyboard works great, mouse is the problem. I have tried everything you can think of, reinstalling drivers, reconnecting the mouse multiple times, uninstalling the mouse, reinstalling, etc... but the mouse is jumpy all over the screen. i'm not sure what the exact terminology is but this doesnt make sense. its brand new, brand new system. i installed the software that came with it, and it still happens no matter what. this just boggles my mind, now i think i am decent with computers but i cant seem to find the problem here. If anyone at all could help me i would greatly appreciate it.

Are you using some kind of reflective surface as your mousing surface?

Also, the optical eye can be messed up if it's a little dirty. Even a tiny hair in the way can screw it up.
