Hello [H]'ers, thanks for reading.
I upgraded my video card from a 3850 to a 6850. I also finally bought a flat monitor (24" Gateway) and a new power supply (550W Antec) to power the new card. I'm still running my old overclocked 6750 with 4 gigs of ram and I don't think it is having a problem.
I upgraded the card because counterstrike was locking up on me. The 3850 was old, and it got very very hot to the touch. I thought I had a heat issue.
The problem is that my new 6850 also will do a hard video lock (sound stutters, screen frozen, input doesn't work) during counterstrike too. It is a flippin DX 9.0 old game and I don't really get why it would do that. I never had the problem for several years with my old card.
It does get really hot, but my question is why does it handle endless hours of Starcraft and Lotro fine but lock up in CSS? Should I put another fan on the side of the case on top the card? Is it even a heat issue? I would like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
Travis
P.S. The other thing that occurred to me is maybe the Asus onboard sound (i think it is a realtek chip) is causing a problem? Is that possible?
