How do I install a Radeon 9200 card? I'm using Mandrake 9.2. I downloaded the driver(for Xfree 4.3), right now though the card is detected as a VESA card whatever that means but the max. res is only 1280x1024x16.

At the prompt I entered, rpm -Uhv fglrx-glc22-4.1.0-3.7.0.i386.rpm

this came back, file /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 from install of fglrx-glc22-4.1.0-3.7.0 conflicts with file from package libxfree86-4.3-23mdk

I haven't installed my new 9700 drivers yet on 9.2, but the first problem I see is that you downloaded the wrong package. You need to make sure that you get the drivers for xfree4.3 cuz now you're trying to install for 4.1...If you can't get it done, I'll try tonight and see if I have the same probs.

You have fglrx-glc22-4.1.0-3.7.0.i386.rpm

Should be fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.7.0.i386.rpm

EDIT: and oh yeah, I use "rpm -Uhi --force" instead of "Uvh"

what he mentioned is important, but once you've got rpm to install it - you'll need to configure with fglrxconfig (it's an ati specific version of xf86config). notes i've found: tv-out only works in clone mode. never, for the life of you, use ati's agpgart module. always use the kernel modules. but that's personal experience, it might vary. dual monitor function works with 3.2.8 and 3.7.0 (but not dual monitor and tv-out at the same time).

I thought the fireGL drivers were only for 9500+ chips...

you probably want to configure it to use the XFree86 "ati" driver, and then get Mesa pointing at it.

I can't really say much else, since I don't use MDK, but slackware was able to autodetect and configure it (which is saying a lot, since for years, slack didn't configure ANYTHING).

Anything 8500 and up is supported by the binary ati drivers. (just not the original radeon series chips, aka 7000-7500 and VE)
