Linux Software vs Hardware RAID

Interesting results - the hardware and software controllers trade places fairly often, but results are consistent from one controller to another. The test I'd be interested in seeing is a software based onboard controller that's not PCI-connected versus a hardware based one on a fast pci bus.

I missed what raid level they were using - anyone? They mention raid 5 in the introduction, but I'm not sure that they use it all the way through. I read German fairly well, but Norwegian is a little different ;)
 
I'm profoundly sorry for mentioning this, but what is 'Linix'? Is it like the Norwegian version of Linux? ;)
