Linux install FAQ missing important steps

Stanford’s folding website has two different guides for installing folding on Linux systems.

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-SMP-LinInstall is the FAQ and it is linked to MANY times on the site. It leaves out IMPORTANT steps like requirements and the startup script is wrong. Using this guide, I was unable to get folding working on Linux.

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/LinSMPGuide is the good guide, but it is difficult to find (most Linux install instruction/FAQ links go to the crappy Lininstall guide). The LinSMPGuide includes the requirements and has the correct startup script (I think this guide was written by [H] member Xilikon, which is why it doesn’t suck like the others).


Stanford needs to update or completely delete the FAQ-SMP-LinInstall guide and replace it with the LinSMPGuide. The FAQ-SMP-LinInstall does not contain all of the info necessary to get folding running on Linux systems.

Essentially you need to know nothing about Linux to install the client.

If you click the little help book icon next to the client you ultimately don’t have to type anything.

Just cut and paste the lines they provide and boom, you are up and running.
