I cannot get F@H to work under linux. Every time I try and open it it says I cannot. I have set the permissions but to no avail. I ahve also tried Wine, but that doesn't work either. If anyone who has a machine running linux could I would greatly appreciate it!

Which flavor of linux ?

make sure you can execute in your permissions.

open a shell,
should look like this
racercarl@linux:~>
type in su
racercarl@linux:~> su
asks for your password, enter your root password
password: *******
linux:/home/racercarl #
enter your path to the file
linux:/home/racercarl #./public_html/FAH502-Linux.exe -forceasm
hit enter,

it should then ask for your user name and things, team # is 33 :D

then it will take off all by itself and fold.

once you get it folding check with the faqs section to make it load automatically when you start up the computer.

Hope this helps.

ok, just tried it, ROCK ON! I definately now have a couploe more folding computers! :D

BTW, is everyone else not connecting to the UD server?

I've don't think I've gotten any WU's from UD since Monday or something. According to the grid.org forums, it appears to be a minor disruption of services. I am hesitant to say that, as the last time that happened, it was somewhere around a week before things got back up.

*waves*

yeah, about a week sounds right. problem is, that wasn't more than a month ago...

personally, my box would be running F@H if it'd run through squid. i may switch it over anyways and hope it gets WUs when i connect to play guild wars at night.

glad you got it working. there should be a way to make it run on startup (doesn't automatically) but that varies based on distro, and i don't have debian experience. so someone else will have to help you there.

when UD servers are up, yes. the only reason F@H doesn't is they adjusted their servers to require http/1.1 headers on the packets. squid is http/1.0. oops.

Squid isn't http/1.1 compliant in 2005? I can't think of a good reason for that, since it's been around for what, 5 years now?

I'm glad I use my *nix boxen for ssh/vpn/vnc/auth and decided agaist using a proxy now.

Only if the servers are up. Not to knock the project, but here lately downtime has become somewhat of an issue. This is the second time in under a month that they've had a multiple day outage. I've not checked since this morning, but it had been down since at least Monday.

Once they are up, I will try and see if I can get through the FW here.

how can I get it so it runs at startup? I don't want to have to start it every time I shutdown/restart.

The problem is that Squid treats http as an interpretable protocol rather than passing through everything it recieves. This is necessary for some of the advanced features of Squid (caching, filtering, etc), but it breaks almost any real http/1.1 request.

Idiots.

Just get the console client from Stanford, and during the config, say yes to run it as a service.... it'll start up on it's own at next reboot

Here's a link to the guide...

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

that's for windows, not linux.

varies based on distro. look in your /etc/init.d folder or something like that. should be able to figure it out (depending on talent with linux) other than that, i don't know (all i've done it with is gentoo, and i don't remember how i did it)
