Well after many a year I have swung back around to owning a Lian Li case once again.

My corsair 800D was destroyed in an unfortunate accident involving falling off my desk as I was putting it back in place, so I opted to go a completely different direction and get a Lian Li PC-8-FIB mid tower.

I originally intended to go hardcore watercooling with the 800D but never got around to it, so I scrapped the idea of a monstrous heavy case in favor of the 12 pound Lian Li mid tower.

I must say I don't know why I ever went away from Lian Li in the first place, their build quality is so solid and they really do appeal to my minimalist sense of aesthetics. Very very pleased with this case.

So on to the main question I had intended with this thread. Has anyone who owns a Lian Li case tried waxing the brushed aluminum panels with carnauba wax? I am a bit of an obsessive about shiny clean polished things and the idea crossed my mind as I was outfitting the Lian Li. I kind of wonder if it would be a good idea at all on a brushed surface so I am curious if anyone else has tried it and if so what the results were like.
 
Blimey how do you destroy an 800D, least of all by letting it fall of your desk. Do you need to replace your floor as well?

Re the wax I heard of people using that stuff to polish cars but I have no idea how it would work on an anodized case. Primarily because anodized aluminium looks really good as it's matt, and polishing up to a shiny extreme might not be the best idea.
 
I love my lian li... so big yet so light! and the cool thing about it that I won't have to change my case ever again.

Well, I keep my case on top of my desk as I have no floor space. And I had put it up and had it pulled slightly ahead, if you are familiar with the 800D it has the three aluminum rail "feet" on the underside, so it was sitting on the back two and slightly overhanging the front of the desk. I was hooking up cables with my hand on top of the case rather safely when I had a momentary lapse in leaning forward to look for the ethernet cable that fell behind the desk.

This is the ethernet cable that cost me a $250 case.

The 800D tipped over the front of the desk and slid till the rear most aluminum foot caught the lip of the desk and made it spin forward even more. It tore the rear foot off the case and spiked the floor (carpeted cement) on the very top right corner of the bezel. It hit so hard that it broke the screws on the hot swap bay when the hard drive caddies wrenched themselves free with the latches closed mind you, and busted the latch off the plastic door that covers the bay. The entire frame of the case bent from the impact and the right hand side panel (the non windowed one) crumpled in the top corner and bent.

So ended the life of my 800D.

But from all destruction good things arise, I am very pleased to be back in the Lian Li world. Love their expansion slot tool free mechanism design so much, it's a thing of beauty. I ALMOST wish I went for the PC-8s big brother the A70, the extra room would have been nice in retrospect, but I was keen on trying a mid tower once again.

Let me tell you though. Shoehorning a Rampage 3 extreme with SLI gtx580's into a mid tower is a feat. Still my temps dropped considerably over the corsair. A testament to Lian Li's design as far as airflow. The corsair was a thing of beauty too, but only if you are watercooling and making use of it. The 800D is NOT a good choice for any form of air cooling.

On the contrary, the big steel beast is comparable to an automobile accident when dropped. It's so heavy that it does a lot of damage.

Good thing It wasn't on a nice hardwood floor. Or tile.

The moral of the story I guess is if you have an 800D keep it on the floor, and don't ever move it unless you need to.

They should have named it the 800G for "800 pound gorilla".
