Lord knows how Alienware makes its money. It's like Dell except it targets gamers and power-users, the EXACT people who'd be most likely to buy the goddamn parts themselves and save hundreds (and let's face it, THOUSANDS in the case of those ALX systems).

So, I propose we screw with Alienware. Like, a whole bunch. I'm not very creative and I just thought of this three minutes ago, but I'll start out with a simple e-mail I just fired off to their customer support.

"Hi,

I was wondering which particular Shuttle XPC model the "Area-51 5300" product line uses. I only spent five minutes on this, but a preliminary estimate (made by adding up the lowest price of each PC component on PriceGrabber.com) shows I could save over $200 on the default configuration ALONE if I simply spent the hour or so building the PC myself. In fact, I'd have all the parts delivered, put together, and running LONG before Alienware would have even shipped the system. However, I can't seem to figure out exactly which XPC model you guys use. I'm thinking of taking the money I save and getting a GeForce 6600GT! (By the way, these only cost $200 on sites not called Alienware.com!) Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help,
