The LED screens that are on the front of some PC cases that have words and such on them, what are they? How do you program them? Where can I get one? I'm planning my first PC mod and I think that it would be cool to have one of them.

Also, I have some spare LED lights, and I want to do something like this but I'm not sure where to hook up the wires to, and where to get a resistor from.

Another part of the mod I am doing will be including adding a fan on the face plate. The plate is about 4mm thick. The hole I need to cut is around/about 6cmx6cm, what tools should I use?

Another question with LED's is that I want to add a few into the PC design but I'm not good with electrical wiring and such.

Any help is appreciated.
 
1) The screens are commercial solutions that interface with either a VGA port, USB port or Serial COM port. Matrix orbital, LIS, Aqua Computers are some suggestions... jab-tech sells a lot of them, as does xoxxide.

2) You'd hook the wires up to any available 5v lead on a Molex connector... You'd want 4 resistors, 1 to each LED... And you'd run the LED's in parallel. The resistors you'd need are 68ohms rated for 1/4w.

3) What's the face plate made of?

The faceplate is plastic, I'm working with the LEDs now.
