I am buying a monitor today and had been set on getting the Samsung 215TW 21" monitor for $499 when I discovered the Westinghouse LCM-22w2 on sale for $399 at Best Buy. I am going to be using it in a dorm room where space is limited so I want to be able to use its component and composite inputs for my PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 as well. Which monitor is better suited for this? Is it worthwhile to spend the extra $100 on the Samsung even though it's one inch smaller?

I picked up two of the LCM-22w2s this week. They're very sharp. I'm pleased with them. Great price too.

Big difference is the stand, the westinghouse stand has no height adjustment and does pivot.

Also the bezel on the westinghouse is bigger/fatter (worse for multimonitor)

OTOH you can always buy a better stand later and an inch is an inch (I got the westy just based on the size and cheaper price).

Not seeing your replies before going to get a monitor (and wanting the 90 degree rotation for typing long essays), I went with the Samsung--and I'm exchanging it tomorrow. The picture quality is amazing aside from seven vertical lines (one blue, two yellow, and four magenta) running from the top to the bottom of the screen. It's a good thing I bought it from CompUSA so I don't have to ship it back (of course a 30-mile drive isn't convenient either).

That blows. Having read about others having these issues, I bought mine at Costco, despite the 30-mile drive. It's been about a week, and so far so good.

Well my 215tw has no problems other than the reported uniformity problem. It's really not that bad and seems to lessen after it's warmed up. It's got next to no backlight leak and can display some pretty nice black levels with high contrast. It really makes the vp930b sitting next to it look bad. You mentioned gaming, I've never used the outputs but I heard they're pretty average you might be better with the Westinghouse, depending on how it fares.

I exchanged the defective monitor today. I haven't noticed any uniformity problems and the backlight bleeding is minimal. As for the component input, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the quality is excellent (certainly much better than my standard-definition TV). Despite the hassle of exchanging it, I am really pleased with the Samsung.
