What is the difference between a 1080p LCD TV and a nice LCD Monitor?

Why is the moinitor so much more expensive per inch of screen size? 1080p is like 1950 x 1080 rez. Is the monitor really gonna do that much more resolution?

Are there other advantages to monitors over TVs - again, inch for inch. Are monitors faster? Less lag? more defined pixels?

30" monitors run at 2560x1600 (or something in that neighborhood), those 30" plus TVs run at 1080p (1950x1080). The dot pitch on the 30" monitor is gonna be much better. I'm sure there are other factors two, but thats a big one right off the top of my head.

ah okay so for actual movies the 30" monitor wont be better than a 30" 1080p TV - or for say PS3 or console games as movies and PS3/XBox games max out at or below 1080p

But for a lot of high-end games and browsing etc... you can run your 30" monitor well past the 1080p rezzes - cool.

Is dot-picth also important? What about refresh raftes and lag - any differences between monitors and TVs there?

SO I guess a console might actually be best on a TV then - unless dot pitch matters.

dot pitch is the distance between pixels, the smaller this number is the better. However, for me at least, you don't notice the high dot pitch on TVs, because you usually watch them from several meters away, as opposed to sitting right up on it like you would a monitor. Dot pitch is basically an relation between the size of the monitor and its native resolution.

So basically if we know the max resolution and screen size dot pitch can be inferred?

Can two 32" TVs with the same resolution have different dot pitches?
