LCD TV vs DLP

After learning I'll be getting a big raise this year, my wife and I are thinking about accelerating our plans to get a big screen TV to replace the 6 year old 27" we're using. I've got a few questions that someone with more experience could answer.

I would like to get a 46" LCD TV w/ 1920x1080 res. so we can use it as a monitor for a Media center PC using the Conroe rig in my signature. I'd pick up a HDTV tuner card so we could watch and record HDTV on it. I'd also use it to play games, surf the net, and play DVDs through the PC. We'd be sitting about 11" from the screen.

On the other hand, I'm noticing that I can get a much bigger screen for the same money by getting a DLP TV. How do these work as a computer monitor? Gaming? I might even scrap the Media center PC idea and get a 62" DLP TV and a 24" LCD monitor for my PC.

We would really like to be able to record HDTV, store the files on my file server, and be able to watch them later on our big screen TV. Will that be possible with the DLP (could plug in my laptop to it via S-video or VGA) or will the picture look like crap?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Im pretty sure if your using a DLP tv with a vga input as a computer display that it would look decent, the problem is that you will have to sit alot further away than you would have to for an LCD tv, the view angles vary abit for each one and if you too close to a DLP the screen looks darker than compared to when you back up, but thats just common sense anyway because you never want to be too close to a large tv. I own a 50" Samsung DLP tv and 40" Samsung 1080P LCD tv and I regularly play games on it (xbox 360 & PS3)being about 2 - 3 feet away from it with no problem, so I wouldnt think a computer hooked up with it would be a major problem either, but with the 50" DLP in my living room that one you usaully have to be further away to get a decent picture. But in your case I would suggest probably the bigger DLP tv and and separate computer monitor because of larger display for price, and make sure the DLP tv has a vga or dvi input my samsung has both so displaying a computer will be no problem.
