Hello everybody.
I'm looking for a TV ,46 or 47". ( 1920 x 1080 )
I'll use it most of the time for my PC,that means : gaming, internet, movies, but for the Xbox 360 and as a TV ,as well.
I found on the internet a lot of nice LCD TV's, but today after i read some threads on the internet,i decided to go for LED TV ,instead LCD TV.
I don't know if it's a good idea,but that's why i started this topic.
LED TV's are more expensiver than LCD's. But they have better specs.
Is that worth to pay 400-500 euro more for a LED ?
Do they have a better picture quality ? Sharpness ? Colors ?
The power consumption is pretty low, compared to LCD /Plasma.
Please help me,and give me some tips / advices about LED.
Should i go for LED or LCD ?
Advantages / disadvantages for LED TV's ?

Any suggestions / ideas / advices ,are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

LED TV or LED backlit TV? I'm guessing you're looking at the LED backlit TVs such as the new Samsung 6000 and 7000 series? Those are still LCD with LED backlighting. I would suggest reading up on avsforum.com in the respective section.

I think the general consensus is that unless you buy one of the super expensive sets (for example, the Samsung 9000 series) it might be best to stick with CCFL LCD for now. The LED backlighting is still somewhat of a new thing for TVs and since this is a first gen tech, there are some bugs they need to work out. For one, they have excessive clouding and flashlights. I looked at a few in Best Buy, and I could easily see the flashlights in all corners (even on all white screens, the corners were a different color).

If you can live with those faults, and have extra money for a sexy looking TV, then by all means pick one up with LED backlight. My personal opinion is that CCFL LCDs are still the way to go at non-extreme price points.

Yeah,you right. I better go for a cheaper one,like this :

In Ireland is 1360 euro ( + delivery about 60 euro ),but i found it in Germany for 1000 euro + delivery 100 euro,i think it's a good deal for 1100,what do you mean, guys ??
Does anyone here got this Sony TV ?

I would got with a Pioneer or Panasonic 50" Plasma but since you want a 46-47" HDTV...

First, I suggest that you take a look at the following:

I always check at the AvsForums owners thread of a particular model before buying it. There is a lot of useful information about features and bugs.

LED TVs are not all created equal.
1) White vs RGB LED: While more expensive, RGB LED have better color reproduction than White LED.
2) Local dimming: vs edge-lit
A LCD using local dimming employs groups of LEDs that can be individually dimmed or even switched off in different areas of the screen. The system is different from edge-lit LED-based LCD for which LEDs are arranged along the edges. Local dimming allows very dark black which is very important for movies.

On the negative side, LED TVs are generally plagued with poorer viewing angles than CCFL based TVs.

I strongly suggest that you go to a brick & wall store and look for yourself.
Your eyes should be the ultimate judge.

I would +1 on going for a CCFL TV. The LCD technology is still too young to be able to compete with the more mature CCFL.

I wish i could for a plasma 50" ,but after i heard about "burn in / image retention" and so many users advice to avoid plasma for using as a pc monitor,i'm affraid.
They said,if i'll use it as a pc monitor,to remove all the desktop shortcuts, remove the taskbar ,and so on....
I went 2-3 days ago in a TV local store and checked some TV's ,plasma and LCD's.
To be honest, plasma looked much better than LCD. Same sizes, same TV channel .
I hate the damn "burn in" :) Is there a "way" to avoid this kind of problems ,with plasma?
The response time and some other specs, included the glass display, are way better than a LCD,in my opinion.

Well screen savers and such were invented in the first place to prevent burn in. When your screen is not in use, make sure you turn off the display. To be safe, move around your icons and task bar every month or so. That's what I'd do.

I'm not gonna risk. I better go for LCD TV. Safer. :)
