i have to say that the policy of a company to provide a "refurbished" unit to replace a broken item under warranty is obsurd. this may be the policy at many companies but this should not be happening.
you pay good money for a product. product breaks. they provide you with a "refurbished" product. this means that no matter what condition its in (ie scratches, marks, screen markings etc...) you are suppoosed to be satisfied with it. so you ended up paying alot of money for essentially a used product which has been broken before.hmmm.

paid about $500 for an LG L246WP about 2 yts ago. it crapped out a few months ago. rma and sent it back no problem. 10 days later i get a replacement. i found this one to be slightly different model, which had large smudge marks on at least 2 places on the screen. looked like someone had used black marker on it then tried to rub it off. on top of that it turned off twice. rma 2. send it back. 9 days later....i get a box that is light enough to feel almost empty... i knew something was wrong. turns out the morons sent me an LG W2252TQ.....one 22" piece of crap.( even this one had scrathing all over the base and bezel) i then called LG once again.....being rather furious. i was greeted with many versions of " im sorry sir that is our policy" to " im sorry sir there is nothing we can do" to " you will have to create another rma"......the manager couldnt even expedite something until i made another rma. which of course will be anohter refurbished monitor, which this time will apparently be the correct model. i had to get them to call me on monday to confirm what they will be sending me " in case" they dont have the right model available. this is freaking obscene. if your prodect breaks under warranty you should be given a NEW product of equal or better value. this is standard customer service policy at many companies for different products. i have no idea what is going on with lcd makers. just pisses me off that essentially now i have paid $500 for what is going to end up being someone elses fixed trash which has no guarantee of not being immaculate as the one i sent in originally. if this one comes back botched im going to be forced to try and find another screen that can match the specs of the L246WP....which nowdays is going to be a pita as monitor quality has taken a nose dive from what ive seen locally. and i will then rma the crap out of LG until they get it right. im sick of being ripped off. LG is supposed to be life's good....seems like now its lotsa garbage......looks like any and all xmas money i was going to have for myself will no doubt have to be used to buy a new lcd that should by rights have been free.....the guarantee i have is that it will not be an LG if they dont smarten up.

I'm having a similiar problem but with my LG L246WP that was bought open box/display--but was still in really good condition--in about March 2008.

LG says the product is discontinued and they don't have anymore so they offered me a choice of three "comparable" models. 2 with 1080P resolutions and a 26" but all 3 use TN panels. Sigh.

Sent an email to my RMA rep early Friday morning and still no reply. I just want something that is truly comparable. Otherwise I might just try to find a place locally that thinks they can fix it. I think mine is just a CCFL failing.

they should have refurbed L246 screens. but this is what i was afraid of. the manager told me he would call me on monday to tell me if they had a L246 and if not what models they had available. to me this is crap. they should pull a new screen off the shelf. i know they make some higher end screens but noone seems to carry them. so yea i really have no data as to what other model an L246 is comparible to. so if i dont get one then ive overpaid for someone elses lower end repaired trash. i have no retailers at all around here that have anything above a basic 24" LG at all. ill let you know happens....

Verizon pulled that crap on me, replacing my like-new phone that had a defect with an abused piece of crap refurb. It is a shitty policy, but what can we do?

Plan and simple. Keep sending it back and/or complain till you get want you want or satisfied with what you get.

The fact is that most all company's will only replace with refurbished/recondition units or parts, and fewer still will only replace with new units within the first 21 to 30 days.

This is standard practice for most all businesses and really should be no surprise know one this day and age. I am not saying it's right or or should not be done different, but it's evidently been accepted and not illegal.

Another thing to think about is "new" is not always the best. you can get a defective or damaged unit right out of the box.

Good lord.... sorry to hear about your LCD RMA woes OP.

I hope I don't have to go through that.

Well I can vouch for Dell. When I bought my Dell monitor 2 years ago, it had a backlight squeal, and within the first 30 days I exchanged it 3 times for NEW models til I got the one I wanted!
