Are there any problems letting an LCD power off every 2 hrs. like in the windows power settings, or should you leave them on 24/7 like I leave my computer on? I leave "blank" on for a sceeen saver to prevent "image burn in" so I just wondered if it would hurt it. ......thanks! Oh, I have the Viewsonic VX910 with a DVI connection, awesome LCD!
 
No... In fact you should be doing that.

Inside your LCD screen is a little light bulb which lights up the screen. If you turn it off when your not using it that light bulb should last longer than if you left it on 24/7.
 
I'm in and out of my computer room quite frequently so I just shut my 2001FP on/off all the time.

the only thing I was worried about hurting was the actual power button itself (on the monitor due to excessive "pushing" :p ) so instead I just started to use the power button on my power center instead.

its what my monitor is sitting on so its no biggie shutting the monitor on and off vs me worrying about wearing out the power button on the monitor itself.
 
Yea... that's an interesting point you make....

I think the new electronic power buttons would be less prone to wearin out but still possible.

On my old (11 years) CRT monitor the power button stopped staying in so I eneded up having to jamp paper beside it to keep it pushed in. I use a power bar to turn it on and off now. :);)
 
I have 18 machines running 24/7 and since I started that many years back I’ve had no problems with hardware. As for the monitor I turn it on when I need it and turn it off when I don’t. So far I haven’t killed a power switch or a backlight.

Strangely, I never gave it much thought until your post. Probably won’t change my way of doing it though, habit is a bitch ;)

yup.

like I said earlier, thats why I'm using my power control center instead to turn my LCD on and off. I think I got the power control center for something like $15 on sale from Office Depot years and years ago so if one of the buttons wears out then it'll be no biggie getting another one.

well when you're as "poe" as I am, you always try to make things that you own last as long as possible and my 2001FP is/was too darn expensive for me to be worrying about something going wrong with it anytime soon. :)

sure, its got a 3 year year warranty but I'd like to have to avoid any/all potential conversations with Dell if possible.

I'd rather get punched in the face then to have to try to talk to a Dell rep who can hardly speak a lick of english no thanks to Dell's outsourcing to India. :mad:
