Hey guys, I need some advice...I'm configuring a dell for a friend of mine (yeah...should build but who wants to be tech support for 3 years...I don't...plus with the current 25% off the price is damn good...so no flames please) and I've ran into a question....
He games a bit but not too often but he wants a good video card. He would also prefer and LCD but it isn't a "must have or no computer" kind of thing. So here's the issue...when configuring the system I'm finding that he can only afford the LCD (19inch) if he goes with the GeForce 6800GTO. If he just gets a decent 19inch CRT he can afford the Radeon X850 XT PE.....so what to do...?

Any thoughts? I'm 50/50 atm and could use some input.

CRT and X850 for sure. That way he can enjoy the full benefits with higher refresh rates and more resolution to tinker with.. And yeah....LCD's rock now...take it from me since I have one and they've improved 10 fold.. But I'm still slightly more inclined to recommend a CRT. Just make sure it's a "good" CRT. :)

More information would let us help you a good bit more: for instance, what games does your friend play / hope to play with this system? Also, I'm guessing the LCD is the 1905FP; you didn't mention the kind of CRT it was.

The keyboard, mouse, and screen are the three most important parts of the computer, since they are the hardware that you will directly interact with. (What does it matter that the graphics are pretty if you're destroying your wrists on a cheap keyboard & mouse or blinding yourself with a poor display?). If it's a quality CRT, for instance a Trinitron tube, it's probably fine, though your friend should be prepared to give up a lot of desk space in exchange for pretty graphics. If he doesn't game heavily though, I would go with the LCD instead - less heat*, more desk space.

*My 20" Trinitron CRT turns my room into an oven. The 19" LCD I ordered arrives on Thursday. :D
