LCD Noob and flickering

I just purchased a Viewsonic VP201B LCD. I'm giving it the run right now in games and notice something that is kind of annoying.

In dark games, or maybe I should say dark areas, when just...staring...the dark pixels kind of..light up. Almost like static. This is going to be kind of hard to describe

It's almost like the pixel refresh rate is going nutz in dark areas even though I'm not moving (Half life 1 source, just go to a dark room in the training area and it "pixel flickers" and same with Splinter Cell Pandora tomorrow)

Anyone else know what I mean?

The only thing that comes to my mind regarding this is artifacts from the graphic card. I know that when I OC my 9800 pro too far I get these artifacts which are exactly what you are describing.

Now, I know virtually nil about monitors, so maybe there is a problem wiht monitors that can do this as well, Im not sure.

yea but this just started happening with the LCD (My CRT died :( ) And it's not overclocked either.

Although I do notice that in CCC if i change Reduce DVI frequency to off, I get it like crazy. If Alternate method, same thing. And it only happens at certain levels of darkness. Does that mean the video card's DVI output is bad is that ...kind of normal

Um, I might be missing something but that didn't help at all.

None of those tests caused my screen to "flicker" either

My problem seems to be more related to the video card giving artifacts using the DVI output.

I mean I don't mind playing dumb and you copying and pasting the area I really should have read, but that page doesn't seem to help me.

Ok then, different issue. Have you tried using the monitor with an analog signal yet?

No but I THINK I solved my problem (intially looking for not extensive testing)

First in CCC (for ATI cards obviously) Make sure under...digital panel (I think that's what it's called since I'm at work right now) Make sure Image scaling is set to centered and not stretched. That helped out ALOT but still was present.

My 3D overide refresh rate was disabled, so I turned it on to "desktop" and that seemed to clear it up.

I also made sure vsync is on in the control panel (On unless application states otherwise)
So far it looks like it is completely gone.

So at least for VP201B users with ATI cards, try the above solution.
