I'm basically just curious because I don't need/desire or even really have the money to upgrade right now. I've just been looking around and trying to learn more and more about the technical specs of the different hardware so that when I do upgrade I'll be more confident in the coices I make. Anyway, this isn't even a technical question really I was just wondering about peoples opinions on what some of the better LCD display companies are. I have a viewsonic vx2025, and I thought viewsonic was supposed to be one of the more reliable companies. Hearing people say that it's not the manufacturer that it's built up to be, however, has shaken my faith. All I'm wondering is, which companies would be preferred over the others? I'm looking at both reliability and good specs.

The best manufacturers are subjective and a matter of personal preference....I've owned (or still own) monitors from Viewsonic, Dell, Samsung, BenQ, and Acer. While I have had generally good experiences with all of them it doesn't mean that I have any particular brand loyalty....you have to take every specific model on an individual basis. For example: I own a Acer Ferrari F-20 and even though I am very pleased with it, I must admit there is nothing else in their lineup that I would purchase. The Viewsonic I owned was my last crt and even though it was a good one...I like the lcd's from other makers better. Another thing to consider is the fact that other than Samsung, LG and Philips...the other makers buy their lcd panels from the handful of companies that make them and then add their own electronics, features and casing. What that means is that even if 2 different models share the exact same S-IPS panel they could still perform differently.

My advice is to figure out what features are important to you and then find the monitor that most closely matches the criteria regardless of who makes it. After you narrow your choices down then your personal preference will decide the winner.

We have about 25 various Viewsonics at work and they seem to hold up just fine.
I wouldn't buy one for personal use tho.
We also have a lot of Samsung 19 & 20" lcds and everyone seems to love Samsung but I wouldn't buy one of those either.

It just comes down to what you need/like and what you've experienced I guess.

I had a Dell, it kept having the "LCD burn in" problem so I RMA'd it and got an Acer, alot happier now.

Yeah I can understand the entire personal opinion concept. I would still only buy a monitor that fit what I desired anyway. I guess what spurred the entire question had to do mainly with the different lcd panels. I don't really know the differences between the different kinds or who uses the preffered types. I was reading a forum about a viewsonic monitor that had a TN panel, which supposedly uses a technique called dithering? I know a little bit about what it's supposed to do, but I don't know anything about any of the others.
