LCD Ghosting

I bought this 19" Samsung 910T, just got it, hooked it up, installed drivers, but damn, its blurry when playing FPS games. So is that due to the 25ms response time, or what? Any way I can correct this better?

A LCD with a response time of 25ms will have ghosting and motion blur. I have the L2335 and it has 16ms and I get no ghosting. I get some motion blur but only when I move my mouse back and forth very rapidly; but then again so would all monitors.

If your a gamer a 25ms response time monitor will not be sufficent. Some 25ms response time monitors are ok for gaming but only becuase they are very high quality. I'm not sure how some 25ms monitors pull off not ghosting but some do. I'd return the monitor if at all possible.

However if you can't return the monitor here are some things that might help. Have you adjusted your color at all? The software that you got you really don't need. Try adjusting hte color correction on the monitor. Tweaking it to best fit your eyes would be the best thing. Also what games are you playing when you get the ghosting? ARe you just playing hte game as you would or are you flicking your mouse to see how fast the monitor really is? If you are flicking hte mouse trying to create ghosting you'll definatly create it.

In terms of gaming performance, we did notice slight ghosting in fast motion games, such as Painkiller and Quake III Arena. The ghosting wasn't as bad as some other 19" LCD's we've seen, but is certainly not up to par with the latest "gaming ready" LCD screens on the market. While 25ms pixel refresh rates are fine for the vast majority of users, gamers still demand more, and the Samsung 910T isn't a true gaming screen. With 17" displays commonly being equipped with 16ms screens, and new 21" displays from Viewsonic and Dell coming with screen sizes of the same speed, we have to wonder what is keeping 19" LCD's from getting the 16ms pixel refresh rate treatment. Nevertheless, if you're a gamer, we would still recommend going with a 17" or 19" model with 16ms refresh rate instead of this 19" model with 25ms rate. The gaming quality just isn't there yet.

The Final Word
The Samsung 910T is a great looking large-sized LCD monitor, and is certainly one of (if not the) best 19” LCD screens we’ve ever tested. The 910T has a sleek, industrial style which will look good on pretty much any desk, has superb image quality (when used with a DVI connection), and is one of the most flexible large-screen LCD’s on the market.
Unfortunately, even with high praise such as this, the monitor is still lacking in the area which most of us are concerned about, gaming performance. Even with a fairly quick 25ms pixel refresh rate, the 910T doesn’t have the speed to compete with monitors like the Planar PX171M and the Viewsonic VP201B. In comparison to other top 19” LCD screens, the Samsung 910T still performs well, but dedicated gamers might want to look elsewhere. That’s not to say the gaming performance is bad, but it’s just a bit above tolerable, which is not enough to give the monitor an unequivocal thumbs up in our book.

The Samsung 910T does appear to be targeting the mass market audiences instead of the enthusiast markets. Hopefully, in the near future, we’ll see Samsung bring an enthusiast class 19” inch LCD panel to market, much like they did with their 17” 172X screen. Perhaps a 16ms pixel refresh rate with a 1600 x 1200 native resolution panel, with a possibility of widescreen 16:9 ratios for good measure. Throw on native USB 2.0 / Firewire ports right on the side of the monitor, or maybe even a small integrated webcam (ala Microsoft’s concept PC’s) and someone just might have an incredible product on their hands. Oh, what a day that would be

We’re just daydreaming though. Perhaps we’ve been spoiled by the new flawlessness of Viewsonic’s 20” VP201B LCD monitor that we’re taking a much more critical eye towards new monitors hitting the market. In the big picture, the Samsung 910T is still one of the best LCD monitors which is available on the market now, and the vast majority of folks who grab one will be most pleased with it.

I bought from newegg, so i can see if i can return. I play the usuals, doom3, counter-strike, far cry, ut2k4 etc... just playing normal i get the blur... ugh i am saddened by this choice, i figured samsung, hey they have been good to me in the past... heh maybe i should try the 17" 12ms display? wonder if they would go for me exchanging it for a cheaper one, and take the restocking fee from the monitor i bought, hmm...

ahhh shit... lol y aknow, i was gonna go for that 17" but it was out of stock... thats what i get for not doin my homework, gad damnit. now it all lies within the hands of our newegg gods

Here is what I'd do. I'd look into the Dell (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=815963). A lot of people are pumped on that monitor. I just purchased the L2335 by HP. it's a 23" LCD with a 16ms response time 500:1 contrast ratio. 16ms is plenty good for gaming. I play UT2004, FarCry, Battlefront and I have experienced NO ghosting what so ever. 16ms will be a little cheaper as well.

545 for the 19, and 385 for the 17" how much for that 21, and I will likely go fo a 17" because of funds available.

I have a 25ms lcd and yes it does ghost in certain situations. Technically anything over 40fps will ghost. However, games that are dark (ex. D3) ghost more than bright games (Far Cry). You do however get used to it. If you're looking for an lcd, you have to make a choice, whether you want great color reproduction or no ghosting. There are some monitors that will do both, but they tend to lean one way or another. I am currently looking at getting a 19", and am considering the samsung 193P. It has a great viewing angle of 178 degrees V & H , 800:1 contrast ratio and 20ms response time.

Yeah but if he has the chance to get the fast MS LCD he might as well well go for it ya know. Yeah could he get used to the monitor he has yes. But I think he will always be dissatisfied with it if he doesn't at least try to get the faster monitor. I had the Apple 23" (old version) and it was a 25 ms monitor and I couldn't see any ghosting on it; but maybe i grew accustom to it. The Apple (old version) IMO was overrated; the picture quality was not as good as everyone made it out to be. When I sought out to by a new LCD I wanted performance and quality. I read the views and postings of others and I went with the L2335. I'm really glad I did the research before pulling hte trigger on this monitor. So far it's been just amazing; for regular use and gaming. I think we've been in a position where we didn't fully research something and regret it. I know I have!

Try to return the monitor for the faster monitor on newegg. Worse comes to worse you can't exchange the monitor and your stuck with. I know that monitor is an 800:1 ratio so the image quality of it has to be just great. My monitor is 500:1 and it's amazing so I can only imagine what your's must look like. Worse comes to worse you learn a valuable lesson from this. HOld on to that monitor for a while and then down the road when you have more funds or want to upgrade sell that monitor and pull the trigger on another one! Good luck! Either way you havea decent monitor; it's just not 100% up to par for what you were thinking about using it for!
