I have a Sony Multiscan G500, a.t.m. Some day down the road I would like to get a LCD monitor, but, my son is a avid CS player, and has heard very bad things about Ghosting, pixilation, and low frame rates. See sig below for my system specs. He gets anywhere from 80-200 fps depending on the map and his settings, 'Office' is the map he gets about 80 on, and 'ScoutzKnifes' is his best, constant 200. He is worried that my getting a LCD monitor will hurt his game play. So, are these rumors true? Is there any truth to them at all, like when lcd monitors where relatively new?

I dont see how a New Monitor would, bring down his frame rates.. It would only drop if he got a bigger Screen and he pushed up the resolution.. The newer LCD's with lower pixel response times are slowy making ghosting a thing of the past..

I myself am a CRT Guy, But I just placed an Order for a Dell 2405FPW.. I will give it a shot. But by the reviews I've been reading it shouldnt have any of the problems other then that If I want to play Games @ native resolution, I better have a high end system.. =X
 
I have a Samsung Syncmaster 710N LCD monitor hooked up to a PNY Geforce FX 5200 Ultra, by no means a powerful graphics card. I play Counter Strike at 1280x1024 resolution with no problems. I dont know my framerate but it looks smooth enough to me. I think it looks better than on the old CRT I had. As for ghosting, make sure you get an LCD monitor with a 12ms "response time" or lower and you should have no problems.
 
Myself, I have a 2005fpw and a Samsung 172x in dual screen config. Gaming is a dream on both due to the low reponse time. The new 8ms and 12ms panels are really good for gaming, but be sure to get cood contrast and brighness and always, always use dvi for LCD panels.
 
As the above posters mentioned, a lot of the problems with LCD's are slowly becoming things of the past. 2 years ago when I purchased my LCD I was a little worried about ghosting, etc (I ended up with the NEC/Mitsubishi 1760V for those who are concerned).

But yeah, switching to an LCD shouldn't be much of a hindrance to gaming. I'd say anything below 16ms response (manufacturer spec) would be fine.
