Lcd Desktop Cutoff

I got a new vizio hdtv and whenever I connect it to my laptop via an hdmi out port on the side and use a hd resolution the desktop output it cutoff on all sides. I have tried the intended resolution (1366 x 768) which for some reason comes up as 1080i, I have tried 1280x720 and I've tried 1920x1080 and they all do the same thing. I've tried using the nvidia destop scaling thing for them but it always ends up 18xx X 9xx even when I try with 1366 x 768, so it forced me to start from 1080. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm using an msi laptop with a 8600m gt and a hdmi side port which i know has worked before in two other tv's that were both 1080p, thanks in advance.
