hey all

I have(had) a 19" Hyundai Imagequest L90D+, it's 3 years 8 months old, out of warranty unfortunately. I've never had any problems with it, but this morning while doing normal computer stuff, the power started cycling on the monitor and video cut out. I tried hitting the power button, but it kept coming back on and cycling, so I ended up having to unplug it to get it to shut off.

I unplugged everything, checked my connectors, everything, then plugged it back in and tried starting it and it did the same thing. It would go blue, turn to orange/standby and keep recycling. I doubt it was a power surge as it was running on a UPS, the battery in which I replaced 3 months or so ago.

So any ideas. I never did like the power button on the monitor. Is a little button on panel on bottom left of bezel, always was kind of flimsy. But never had any probs.

Anybody have an explanation or fix to try? It's 8 months out of warranty. Would it be cheap/easy to get fixed, or should I just ditch it and get a new one?

Color me extremely annoyed and glad I still have my old 17" CRT around (CTX VL710 still working, yo)

thanks

Rob

I've actually seen this happen to a few people that I built computers for and I managed to fix about 50% of them. I simply used some compressed air and shot it into the open grilles on the back of the monitor.

One of them was a heavy smoker and the other did a lot of deep frying. Obviously the grease/tar caused "gunk" build up and didn't allow the electronic components to dissipate heat properly. Make sure not to let the can spray any moisture into the unit.

It's worth a shot at least, since nobody else has any inputs :)

I've got all sorts of other solutions that have worked over the years, I just can't stand not fixing things. Like putting a keyboard into the dishwasher, make sure not to use any soap, and run it on regular hot water, not the electrically assisted heat cycle. Worked like a champ when a customer of mine spilled a Dr. Pepper on their KB. I've got lots more stories but I'm starting to ramble. Good luck!!
