laptop screens. lcd?

is it safe to say that laptop screens are pretty much lcd monitors?
how do i find out about the panel on my laptop?
its an old ibm thinkpad 2467 i think it says TFT

would this compare to any lcd monitor at all for comparison sake? (before i actually buy one)

it wouldn't compare to any modern LCD monitor, it's just the same kind of technology, TFT stands for "Thin Film Transistor" which is just how it's made but aside from the fact that it's a laptop screen, there is now DVI and HDMI and higher resolutions.
