I've searched the forums and I thought this would be the best place for my question.. if not please redirect me.

I have a laptop computer. About mid screen theres a line across the screen it doesnt affect anything except you cant see txt when its through that line. My question is.. would that be my video card or my monitor? I have yet to try a external monitor.. which I will be doing here shortly.

And secondly my screen if not propped agaisnt something, falls straight backwards to the point it knocks over the whole laptop. Is there anything I can do to make that stronger? It is a Compaq Presario 1200. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks guys.

**Tried a different monitor, doesnt have the line through it. So its my video card?

Probably a damaged LCD screen. LCD's in laptops are rather sensitive, sometimes a single line will die other times it will be a few pixels. I'd place my bets on the screen and not the graphics card. I'm pretty sure if it was the card you'd see a lot of artifacts.

If you push in on the screen a little it goes crazy and scrambles, then when you push in on it again, it goes back to the orginial screen.

That help?
