Are there any well known sites for replacement internal fans for laptops? An HP Pavilion dv7 to be more exact... Wifes is shutting down while playing wow at times and its getting a bit annoying :-/
 
it amazes me how cooling in laptop design is like not even one of their priorities. I had a dell which would do the same exact stuff. Due to the shitty cooling i had TWO Geforce Go 6800's die on me in my Dell Inspiron 9200. (and i'll bet i was better than most owners about cleaning the dust out too)

I don't know of any sites that offer improved fans over the originals, i had many fans die too, i'd just replace them off ebay, but this obviously didn't ever solve the problem.
 
I inherited a hp pavillion dv5. It's warm to the fingers. hardware monitor shows cpu's 94c and acpi 97c

These things are toasty!! Lift it yup and temps go down 10 c >.>

It's like the back area is flush with the surface and air intake slots for ram and fan is around there.
Guess we need those laptop pads to keep it kool. Funny how theres still lap in laptops when they'd burn your thighs if you had em on them (lap).
(one of the rubber pad in the back fell off doh gonna have to get something in there )
 
I have a fan blowing on it a cooling pad under it and the battery actually lifts the back end slightly yet the dam thing is still getting too hot :-/
 
If you can, replace your cooling pad's fan with a Delta PFB1212UHE-F00

On a more serious note, one thing you could do and should do (because you can) is replace all thermal pastes in your laptop with something like Arctic MX-4. Sometimes it will make all the difference in the world. Works miracles on the extreme majority of Dell laptops.
 
lol chockomonkey, laptop manufactures don't care about cooling.. why? because when it goes bad what does the average customer do? they realize their warranty is up and they go out and buy a new one. i have 5 dead laptops here, i've taken them all apart. the oldest one dating back to 2004 using an athlon XP-M 2400+ and the newest one an intel core duo.. all 5 laptops have the EXACT same heatsink on them, and yes i even took the heatsink off my athlon XP-M laptop and switched it over to the core duo without any issues.


as far as cooling goes the best way to fix it is just getting a laptop cooler that sits under the laptop, look for one that works best with your wifes laptop in comparison where all the vents are. there are tons of different types out there so look around.

this is the one i currently use but i took the 2 small 80mm fans off and put 2 120mm fans off, i believe they even have a 2x120mm version but i wasn't going to pay the extra since i already had 2 fans sitting on my desk.

oh and can of compressed air is your best friend with laptops, i have to dust mine out every couple weeks.
