Laptop any metropolitan area internet

Hey everyone. :)

I am looking for a wireless/satellite solution that can be run in any metropolitan area. I have heard of Sprint and Verizon's "air-cards" but haven't had any experience or heard of anything from that. This is going to be in a laptop. Any suggestions or recommendations? :)
 
I have one of Verizon's VZW broadband access cards. The connection is okay; it should be sufficient for casual use, but I have seen it get "flakey" in some office buildings with highly variable speeds and intermittently dropped connections.

What format is that in? What service is it called and how much is it per month?
