sorry...specs are:

120GB HD
Windows 2000 pro
Athlon XP 2700
Radeon 9700 pro

dont kno how many mb. cache my HD has but culd that b the problem?

I doubt it's an HDD cache problem. How much RAM, and what program is this?

Also, check in Device Manager, under IDE controllers, to make sure that everything's set to run DMA mode and not PIO. Sometimes that causes problems.

windows xp is trying to read the mp3 tag header information. is normal.

hes using windows 2000. thats the problem...it always has lagged like that when you right click anywhere on the desktop, makes sense itd extend to files with information

oh whoops, yeah he is using win2k.

i remember that happened all the time. yeah that's normal.

shouldn't they have some kind of patch or something for that? If its an inherant problem, I would think that they would at least recognise it.

i have a gig of corsair pc2700. that sucks if its suppoes to run like that in win2k...

Funny, Windows 2000 seemed plenty responsive to me at home. That's on an A7N266-VM w/ an XP 1800+ and 256MB of RAM. Are you up to date on service packs?
