Kill coil or PT nuke?

I'm redoing my water loop and deciding between using a silver coil or pt nuke.

Any inputs?

fwiw, i'm currently using swiftech hydrx with distilled water. I just want to try something new.

I personally use a kill coil and have no issues at all. Really its half doz one way and six the other. Just dont do either if you have nickel plated blocks, I have heard that mixing the silver or copper sulfide might have been a culprit in the whole "flaking" fiasco

I prefer a silver killcoil because it's a "drop in and forget" sort of deal. PT Nuke you have to remember to add each time you replace/add water.

That was EK trying to scapegoat their screwup instead of acknowledging they made a mistake. Independent tests proved that the flaking thing was due to EK using a cheap plating process instead of doing it properly.

Hence why I have no ek parts currently... I was just throwing it out there as a possibility, but I am not metal/chemist expert

I have EK nickel the new EN version, other stuff copper as far as I know.

So buying 1 or 2 kill coil is smart?

I was considering addititive, but I think 1 or 2 silver kill coil is better for me.

I have a nickel plated EK GPU block (umm.. FC6970 i think is the model number), brass radiator, and copper CPU block and am using a Kill Coil. No issues yet, but it's a new loop ;) I'll keep you updated.

I recently switched over two open air bench tables to water from air... and I went with kill coils and distilled water... the combo is working well for me.

i bought a 12" silver strip from jabtech for $7.50. enough for one big coil or two smaller ones.

Entirely correct.
RealRedRaider did some very detailed independant studies on that whole deal and found the nickle plating was flawed. It had nothing to do with coolant additives what-so-ever.
To blame the customer was total bullshit.
I will not use their products anymore based on that.

I use one coil in my radiator and one in the reservoir.
No issues.:D

I have my kill coil in the return tube going from radiator outlet to res input. Is there a "best" place to put these things?

No.

The only thing I've noticed is they need to be submerged completely.
I had one of mine at the top portion of one of my radiators and it corroded slightly because it was exposed to air.

If the coil is not scure, just make sure it's downstream from the pump.

Coil in pump mechanism = bad.

I placed my kill coil in the res. Bent it 90 degree so it wont get shot down to the pump

Yup.
I bent a "hook" in the end of mine and put it in the little "air hole" on the deflector thing in my Swiftech Micro-Res.:p

Ah okay, just checking. Yeah, I don't think it's going anywhere, it was quite a feat getting that thing in there much less having it move down the tube :p I could have wound it smaller but didn't want to have that situation you just described where it shoots into the pump 0.0!

as others suggested a decent length of silver should be fine. personally i use 2 strips (maybe a little over 30cms). one strip is installed in a bent section of tube just after the discharge outlet of my 655. the other longer piece is installed in a 180 degree section linking 2 of my rads. there is no danger of either piece going anywhere or causing damage. prefer to have the sliver in the 'direct flow' of the loop (i.e. in the tubing).

So can you just buy the kill coils and never use PT Nuke at all, someone else suggested that you needed both cus the kill coil took some time to kick in.

I was going to buy this one:

Should I buy one or two, the loop will have one cpu, two gpus, one 560 rad, and a MCP35X2, and bent copper pipes.

I have used both kill coil and PT at the same time but just drained my systems and ran new tubing (plasticizing). I am going with only a killcoil to see if that helps me out.
