I have the same problem .... 7 hours of Prince of Persia left so much junk from my sweaty hands on the keyboard and mouse that I was going to throw up by the nastyness.... anyway get some qtips and a dust-off air can ... that should do the tricl

I run it under hot water, without taking apart. Amazingly this crappy vaio keyboard is waterproof. Well I only did it once because i was pissed that i just spilled a full glass of kool aid all over the keyboard. I usually gut it and take the keys and soak them in a bucket and swoosh them around and wash the main part of it by hand.

I take the batteries out (Logitech Elite Keyboard, wireless), and take off a few screws in the back until the top comes off, then I use a can of air to blow out all the lint, dust, and other crap, and use a bottle of windex, some paper towels, and a few Q-Tips and the thing comes out looking like new.

use the dishwasher

How many times have you done it? Im afraid that it will break something or mess the internals up or something

I also have the viewsonic slim keyboard. Can the keys be taken off like a normal keyboard? Not too sure as I haven't tried it yet.

I would just use a damp cloth to wipe the top of the keys. Then get a can of air and spray it to get the gunk between the keys and under the keys out.

washing machine works ok. its a little loud in the dryer after though

actually it wasnt.

People do it all the time, you just have to make sure you let everything dry well. I have never done it personally, i havent gotten the keyboard dirty enough to warrant any sort of cleaning.

seriously that sounds possible ... with certain keyboards you can remove the top holding the keys and its all plastic and safe for water ... i wonder if the letters fade away

go to K-Mart and pick up a can of compressed air to get out crumbs and maybe wipe the keys with come citrus based spray, put the spray on a towel and wipe

I use q-tips and compressd air, time consuming but it works.

If I spill something really sticky or stanky on the board then I take it apart and stick it in the top basket of the dishwasher and use warm water on rinse cycle only for about 5 minutes, then let dry for a day or two just to be safe. I can do that 'casue I have a backup board.

Everytime I go to wal-mart to get air, they card me. Stupid punk kids got to get there high on, making it slow me down at the register. Damn kids. Get off my lawn too!;)

well this sucks. I tried washing with barely and warm water and it got it nice and clean. The only problem is that it doesnt work anymore. If anyone has a viewsonic slim, I dont reccomend this procedure

I thought I would be ok because I used barely any water...

I dont understand why it wouldnt work anymore even if a little bit of water got in there, there is barely any electronics in there. Any ideas?

Even a little bit of water is enough to ruin any electronic.

I'd say stick it in a warm place and let it dry for a day. Water probably got into/under the keys and into the circuit board. If you want to take it apart, go for it.

See if it works after it dries COMPLETELY.

I have it sitting up and a fan blowing into it. I hope this works.

The diswasher has always worked well for me :)
Only for REALLY dirty keyboards

You could be suprised that the keyboard actually works in a couple of days. Btw, i eat every meal at my computer (I don't put my keyboard on my keyboard tray so i use it to eat taco bell). Despite eating there all the time, my keyboard remains very clean. Maybe you should slow down a bit while your eating and drinking so that it doesn't splatter all over the keyboard. :)

I forgot to say what I do.

I have a black keyboard, so I can't really tell if it's dirty or not. :D I can tell if it's dusty though. dammit...

If I were to clean it, I usually pull the keys off, and use dish soap or something. I might try the dishwasher next time though, or even just putting it in hot soapy water.

about once a year I'll pull out all the keys on my keyboard then put then in the dishwasher, then soak them in bleach for 24-48 hours, then run them through the dishwasher again. Keyboard is an MS Internet keyboard pro (no longer made I believe) and all the letters still look perfect. Sometimes I'll do the same to the top of the keyboard as well - but mostly it's the keys that I like to clean.

well what do you know, the damn thing is working again. I was scared that I would have to buy a new keyboard
