with all these computer-heat anal retentive doods on the forum, newbies (never built a computer before) like myself are confused about how bad heat problem REALLY is.

lemme describe my situation ( i am planning to build it) :
1) shuttle P chasis (939, AMD)
2) amd 64 3500+, 1-2 gig of ram, 1 hard drive, x850xt pci express
3) ambient temperature: 25-30 celcius (77 F to 86 F for u americans)
4) NO OVERCLOCKING!

would i be able to use a shuttle p chasis to run server, play game for 3 hours at a time without shortening the life of my hardware? or do i need some mid tower or full tower with freaking 69 120mm fans blowing from every possible direction (exageration, but i mean like a mid tower with 2 120mm fans)

You should be fine. If every thing is within spec, then don't worry. Even if you get temps in the upper 50s. Heat won't kill your processor anytime soon, and stability does not suffer unless run out of spec.
