I posted this awhile ago but I am about to order that parts! My rig is in my sig. If you want links to any of them let me know.

Have fun once you've gotten it up and running! I remember when I first put together my computer..*nostalgia*..

So far all I have is the 160gig WD HD.

Do you thnk that the PS I am getting is enough?

Also I should be able to handle games like America's Army, Joint Operations, Battlefield Vietnam and Counter Strike w/o any trouble?

I wouldn't skimp out on the PSU, just cause it's like the heart of your computer. It's also pretty low wattage for a GT. You'd actually probably be ok, BUT "ok" doesn't cut it for me. I'd check out the CoolerMaster RealPower 450w. I have it and I've had no power related problems on a similiar system.

/my 2 cents

Ok thanks for the tip. So right now I am lookin at the COOLER MASTER Real Power 450W. For about $61, does anyone else agree that I should go to this PSU rather than the one I have in my sig? This is gonna put me up $20 more that I wanted but I don't want my comp crappin out on me!

Fortron makes good PSU's, they're well known for their Blue Storm line. Of course the cooler master will be better just due to sheer voltage ratings...

Only thing wrong with the one you've got now is it's too "small" for the system it's going in...

Also Chaintech & Kingmax are both kinda far down the food chain, if you're open to changing those.

I'm not really looking for an amazing PC. All I really want is a decent gaming PC that will play most of the games that my computer that I have right now can't. That would be Battlefield Vietnam, BF2, Joint Operations, and CS. I am also trying to keep the PC around $700.

PSU quality and being "big" enough to meet the specified requirements is about your system not dying catastrophically or getting schitzo errors, not about being amazing.

How much do the Chaintech & Kingmax run? I'm guessing they're both $80ish? There's probably a good Epox motherboard around the same price range, and as far as memory Crucial is very reliable and decently fast.

I agree dont be cheap with the PSU

we need to know the specs of this supply before we jump the gun - do you have linkage? wattage doesnt matter all that much, compatability and amperage will. since you are getting an NF4 board, do you know if it has the 24 or 20 pin ATX connector? adapters arent really good to use, and can result in sparks. how many amps are on the 12v? you need at least 20-24 to pump into a modern a64/6 series system, so check that out. i know some of the fortran 350w models have 18a, but thats cuttin it slim to be honest.

i would HIGHLY suggest getting a different brand of memory. i know you just want a basic system, but that sure as hell doesnt mean you want a buggy one. bad ram is one of the major componets that can cause instability, and cheap branded ram is often associated wtih this. i would highly suggest looking into crucial or kingston, not so much corsair's value line just because other people have had problems with it.

chaintech is alright, but most certainly not the best. i dont think i would put one of their boards in my systems. look into epox, abit, asus, and MSI.... i dont know what they offer as far as s754 boards wtih NF4, as i havent looked at it recently, but teh NF3 (AGP) abit s754 (NF8 i believe) board was damn nice, ive used one.

I will have to agree with that.

By getting the FSP Blue Storm 500w, I'm hoping not to have to upgrade for a long time. I think I'm in good shape with the new PCI-e video card power adapter and dual 12v rails. :)

Fortron is NOT skimping on a PSU. Fortron/Source makes some of the best power supplies out there, I say go for the 350 watt (Fortron's are pretty much always under-rated anyway), I think it'll be fine. :)

Don't skimp on the PSU, RAM, and Motherboard, thats what i say
I disagree with the RAM comment. If you don't plan on overclocking Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, PQI all make good quality generic stuff. The difference between CAS 2-3 is probably 5-10 fps at the most.

As far as power goes I stumbled upon a neat little app called Overclockulator. It can give you a very general idea of what your system is using power wise.

I have noticed that good quality "value ram" is more prone to failure, and doesn't justify the 10-20 dollars you save.

in many cases, its more than 20 dollars, and i have alot of value ram here running in a few systems, and they are all just fine. i have noticed taht corsair value ram causes more problems than any, which is why i did not recomend it; however, i have some running in an IS7-E and its running great.

yes, they are quality supplies. that doesnt mean you can get something that is underrated for the application and expect it to run phenominally just becuase it is a quality built supply. BTW, as far as i know, fortran supplies are rated at 25-30C instead of regular operating temp of about 40-45C, so they are actually overrated.

The video card is out of stock. So I was thnking of going with the Asus 6600GT instead for $172. Would this be worth it? Or is there a cheaper card that is just as good?
