Zalman 7000 Cu for my p4 socket 478, but its way the hell to heavy, so i was looking at exchanging it with newegg for the AlCu version because its a billion times lighter. How is the performance compared to pure copper? Will i see a huge difference (i got the 7000 for overclocking)
 
There is very little difference between the two, maybe 1-2C. I am using the AlCu version and love it ;) .
 
Actually, in several reviews the Al-Cu version got lower temps than it's Cu sibling.

Personally, I don't think the Zalmans are that heavy to begin with.... not compared to a Thermalright or a Coolermaster Hyper6 at any rate, but I guess the Zalmans don't bolt onto your mobo so I guess it matters more.
 
Well they would but i move my case around much and it feels just ready to rip the mobo out with it. How much lighter is hte AlCu version really?
 
AlCu version is 445 grams or .98 lbs

the Cu version is 773grams or 1.7 lbs

so the AlCu is significantly lighter than the Cu if you're worried about weight.

I see, so AlCu is almost half the other's weight yet sitll produces almost similar results and its 8 bux cheaper... (correct me if on wrong on any of that)
Whats the amount of weight the socket 478 can take?
 
The specified maximum weight for a cooler is 450g for the Intel Pentium 4. Any more and you take the risk of the retention frame breaking or falling out if you drop the system or give it a sudden jolt. I havent heard of many breaking though.
 
good luck getting ur AlCu :D they work great! as almost everyone above said, they are on par with the Cu if not better in some situations
