Just got e6400 plus confusing question

Ok, just got my e6400, put it in my DS3 and all is well....until, I check out cpuz and the multiplier keeps flopping from 6 to 8, at 6 its 1.6ghz :mad: So whats going on, my pentium D 820 never did this like two hours ago? Should I maybe set a voltage to like 1.325 instead of auto?? Thanks help is very appreciated
 
Sounds like EIST (enhanced speed-step) is enabled.

I don't know if the DS3 has an option for that, but I see the same behavior on my Bad Axe with EIST turned on. Put any load on the CPU and it'll switch back to 8.0x until the load goes away.

Well I just checked and that was disabled already, but 2 other things right above it sounded pretty similar so I disabled those and now its working fine, one of them was called TM2 Im not sure what the other one was called

These are there to protect your investment:) You can kill EIST but DON'T turn off TM2.
 
So, when it comes to this EIST and TM2 stuff, does it operate at a lower level than the Windows power profile? What I mean is, for example on a core based laptop, you can set the Windows power profile to "Always On" and the speedstep like behaviour will stop (cpu will run fiull speed all the time). Is this not the case for c2d and EIST/TM2? Is a BIOS disable the only way to do it? TIA.

I got a DS3 and the features are there. My computer is setup but running in limp mode until I get my RAM Friday. So far, Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology hasn't bothered perfromance but since I only have 256MB of RAM on a single channel. The Thermal Monitor 2 and the new Halt States all work together to save power, cut down on heat and save your processor if something bad happened.

I want these features turned on and if they kill my Overclock, oh well.
