Is there a good guide somewhere for newbies to learn overclocking? I can do the auto overclock, and some minor tweaks, but when I buy a 1090t I want to become more knowledgeable about it. I currently have a amd 940 and gigabyte ga-ma790x-ud4p, the best I could do was get it to 3.6 and the ram to its stated 1066 speed, and I use the original CM freezer pro 7. Though this was a couple years ago when I first bought it and was playing around, its currently at 3.3.

1. dont use that freezer pro 7 on your 1090T. get a sunbeam core contact or a coolermaster hyper 212+.
2. the only things you need to mess with on the 1090T is the cpu multiplier, cpu voltage, and setting the ram to 1066. other then that you don't need to touch anything else.

3.(optional) if your bios gives you the option to change the NB-CPU multiplier. try to set it as close to 3Ghz as possible. you will most likely have to raise the CPU-NB voltage to do this as well.

I bought my board already, its the asrock 870 extreme 3, and have 8gb of gskill ddr3 1600 ram. I was going to get either the hyper 212 or an h50 for the cooler as well. I have the case too, haf932. Just waiting on the 1090t to break $200 and I'll buy it. Would love to get it to or close to 4.0 as I hear its easily done =-)
