System was running fine all morning..then it locks. I reboot and notice the cpu temp is 120c!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek: Turns out the fan had fallen off my sink. I cant believe I ran all morning like that and it did no damage. I am now still hot as hell. MBM and bios read 81c. This is on my work rig; 1700@2.3Ghz.

So much for frying over 80c, or whatever it is. :p
 
heh heh thats why you get asus mobos, they come with c.o.p. incase something like this happens
 
Excellent! I myself have run Prime95 stable in the upper 90s, but haven't broken the 100 C barrier (water and 100C, bad combination).

Some people are just afraid of the big numbers.

if you get 90C max load with watercooling, theres something seriously wrong with you w/c setup.

And I was doing it intentionally, a test you see. Clamp the tubing, reduce the flow, see how much water gave what temperature. Experiments, science, all that nonsense.

Why I'm an idiot:
Few weeks ago I had a power failure, my UPSes kicked in, everything was still runing...... except my pump. oops. Well, my temps slowly rose to 62c, before MBM popped up and said "heh heh ur fuqt". Anyway, plugged the pump in and everything was fine. My friend joked about the water starting to boil. I got curious. Looked up water boiling temp calulator, but I didn't put in my baromatric pressure :rolleyes: , and got a result of 156 degrees F. converted that to celcius, and got 68c.

The End.

its not even that. The fact that its metric doesnt matter, its one number that you have to remember. Everyone knows when water boils and freezes, its just common knowledge. You shouldnt have to look it up... :confused:

Watch "street smarts" sometime. You will be amazed at what you *think* everyone knows.

I'm confused that you say it's "one number" to remember. It's not. It's a range of numbers. Hence why there are calculators for it.

No, in general it is just one number: 100C (212F). Yeah, it varies from the air pressure, but for the most part its common knowledge that water boils at those temps because of the average air pressure. On the ground on this planet it usually wouldnt vary by more than +/- 10C at the most, but rarely that much.
 
ok...we got the water boiling point down..now back to some high temp stories! :D Has anyone fried from having the fan fall of the HS?
 
mine fell off and leaned on the video card. i came back into the room and saw all thhese particles on my screnn, opened the case, and my cpu fan was chopping away at my video card. DOH! oh well that was like 3 machines ago. llast time i go bargain bin foor cpu coolers.
 
For those that think those few degrees difference in boiling point are not important in every day life, come to Los Alamos, NM, home of the 8 min soft boiled egg, the 20 min al dente noodle and the 1 h potatoe. You know you're in trouble when the high altitude instructions on your cakemix are only valid from 3000 - 6000 ft, and you're at 7500 ft ;).
