junction point with steam games

Heres one for you. I have an older I7 Hp Radeon laptop that I put a 1TB SSHD drive as boot and a 2TB in a hdd caddy. Now with every thing I've transferred have about 150 GB left on the 2TB hdd. I plan on installing Steam on the 2TB and using the utlity steamover to transfer the games to SSHD 1TB .The reason I am doing this is I have more than 1TB of steam games. My question is will junction points allow the benefits of the nand on the SSHD?
 
are you asking if the algorithm will be able to learn what is needed quick enough?

If that's the question i remember reading a review 6 or so years ago when the drives were in their first or second iteration a it took 2-6 times for the program to load before it was entered into the SSD cache.

Now my major question has always been how long until it wipes. How smart is the algorithm. If i open 20 programs daily but the cache can only handle 2 of the programs does it pick the 2 most opened ones? That is the question i think your looking for and i have never found an answer and i was never interested in testing one for 4 days to find out.

I really have never seen any info on how complex the algorithm is in those SSHD so i don't know if they can learn fast enough. Granted, i have not researched this since they first game out and they were only on the first or second gen of the algorithm so they might have made better improvements or posted more info besides people simply running programs and timing it.

no what I am looking for is if the program is through a junction point IE steam thinks game is on D drive but steam mover will move installed game to C drive redirecting steam to the C drive for game using junction point. Would this not allow the Nand to store the game info?
 
I am assuming the algorithm is independent of the OS since this is all HDD level. So i would put my money on the cache in the hybrid drive doesn't care what the OS thinks but cares whats actually on the drive and being accessed. So if the program is only dumped once and then removed and repeated over and over i don't think the algorithm will catch the importance. Although, it may not have any benefit on first loading the game. It may benefit during game play if the game is played long enough. For an example, if you are playing NS2 or CS after 5 or 10 rounds it'll start to pick up what game files are needed and save them to cache but most of this is already in RAM at that point. NS2 is a weird exception because it is heavily hard drive dependent so a few rounds of NS2 and it should be smart enough to notice it but that disappears whenever you delete and reload or enough changes happen and the cache is refreshed with different data. Remember this only has like 8GB of cache so it can only hold a little bit of stuff.
 
Your probably right. I have not really seen much improvement over a standard 7200 hd and there is no comparison to an ssd. SSHD performance more hype than reality.It is a bit snappier though. Thanks for the info....
 
its very beneficial if your workload doesn't change a lot. I.E. You use outlook, browser, and a few small programs. Basically the common joe. Those people see huge benefits for using a hybrid drive. Someone like me who uses a myriad of programs and verys all over the place it turns out to be useless.
