Anyone run one of these monsters?

Iwaki RD-20
or
Iwaki RD-30

I heard they are great for loops that have lots of restrictive blocks, but you better hope you never spring a leak. . .
 
They are good if you want to run a separate power supply, have the room, and want to have the obsolutely most flow. Definately overkill.
 
nikhsub used to run one, I believe. Last I looked, he ditched it for a couple of modded DDCs, which is probably the optimal way to go. Not sure if he's around here these days. I believe the consesus was that an overvolted RD-20 is preferred over the RD-30 for power consumption reasons.

They're great pumps. DC powered and don't dump nearly as much inline heat as the rest of Iwaki's W-series AC pumps. Overkill perhaps, but definitely cool.

Kicks ass that Petra's stocking them (or at least trying to), however. These used to be a group-buy-only affair.
 
XS is of the opinion that they run too much pressure. A lot of guys over there said their otherwise fine loops sprang leaks when they swapped in Iwaki pumps, forcing them to use worm clamps and the like. Great, reliable pumps, but overkill unless you're running a Fuzion GFX and a Storm in series.
 
I ran these for awhile in my main rig but removed my RD-30 due to spacial constraints. These things simply don't die and are used in various construction, manufacturing roles.

These things give you absolutely the best head pressure and will power through anything and eat 90 degree elbows for breakfast. They're only slightly louder than a D5 as well as being slightly larger. The only con I can think of is price and the use of an secondary PSU. For the serious enthusiast where balls to the wall performance is the only objective, this is THE pump.

You can literally pump water up to the 2nd floor of your house as one user did after installing an underground copper pipe setup.

With the kinds of pressure Iwaki pumps deliver I could only imagine a leak springing would probably cause water to cut holes in your case lol.
 
You'd be surprised. Some fittings are 'slippery', in a sense, as they don't 'grab' the tubing. Clamp it too tightly, too loosely, or in the wrong place, and you've got problems :)

One more reason to dig plastic fittings. Those fuckers tend to not want to let go without a fight.
 
Man isn't that the truth. With my old Apogee GT's plastic fittings I had to basically cut the tubing away, it would NOT come off by pulling.
