Hey all,
I want to build my first itx. I need some suggestions. Here is what I have so far.

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6300 (2.8GHz) CPU/2M BOX
Ram: Kingston DDR-2 800MHz 2G Ram x2
MB: ZOTAC GeFORCE 9300-ITX WiFi M/B (LGA775, PCI-E 16x)
Case: Inwin BM639 (120PSU)
DVDr: Pioneer DVR-117 20X Super Multi DVD Writer
Harddrive: Already Have (this case can use 3.5" right?)

Total around: $374US (converted)

I wouldn't mind using a cheaper MB if there is any.

Do you already have that cpu? I would get something with lower wattage.. i have a celeron in mine.
 
Nope, not yet haven't build it yet. I wanna make sure the spec is decent first :)

I'm kinda debating between this or just a cheaper ion spec system. It'll mainly be a testing machine. I like to test out different linux OS and such. Although I think I can get a non ion for cheap too.

If you have ever used an atom before, they are pretty slow. You can get that zotac and a cheap processor for around as much as the ion... Doesn't come with power brick though.
 
Ya, I just cant make up my mind after reading info from around the net. I wanna keep my budget under $430US. Or else I mind as well just get a stock Acer X1700G for $470ish.
 
if you go with the zotac socket 775 board, which i recommend, pick a 45nm cpu. you'll be thankful for every bit of heat you don't have to handle.
 
what about this one?

why E6300? its $92 for 300mhz (and boost in FSB) over the E5200, which is $70

prices from newegg

i doubt you'll notice the performance difference between the 2 at stock clocks
 
Well for few bucks more I figure I'll just go with the E6300. Anyways this cpu should be fine then rite?

Now I'm debating whether to use the Inwin Bm 639 or the Minix-lx01 case.
 
You're planning to spend more money on an older processor that's not guaranteed to perform any better than the newer, cheaper one. And this is for a Linux-based test bed. Why go with that processor?

Which specific (brand and model name/number) hard drive are you going to reuse?

Where are you going to buy everything from?

I'd like to offer some help, but I need some more details from you.

the OP is referring to the new e6300:

based on 45nm wolfdale

and back to what i was saying, i dont find it necessary to spend an extra $22 from e5200 to an e6300

maybe use that $22 for a better performing, low profile cooler
 
I recently bought:

E5200
Zotac ITX
2x2 gig crucial
lite-on laptop size DVD burner
SG05 case
Slim SATA adapter

Paid something like $405 after shipping from the egg. It's working pretty well for me. The main difference between the e5200 and the e6300 is the FSB, I bought the cheaper one assuming you could just OC the FSB but I haven't really played with that yet.

I'm getting all these in HK so I can only convert the prices to show you.

So I'm going back and forth debating if I should just get this whether than DIY. DIY estimated price converted would be around $400US Max

Have you considered just upgrading your CPU /RAM in current rig and virtualizing your OS? Would be cheaper / more power efficient than running a separate rig.
