When I started playing around with watercooling, The Koolance Exos had just hit the market, Cather had just released the LRWW for sale and Thermalright had just recently overthrew the Swiftech MCX462 as the top performing heatsink in the overclockers.com review section.
I remember designing and building a reservior out of plexi and coming up with the idea to put a divider between the outlets to force the water to completely circulate.
I also remember deciding to use Zerex for coolant because I had some in the garage and it had worked great in my car. I remember how the only 2 pumps people seemed to use were the Eheim and Mag drive pumps and I remember scanning aquatic retail sites looking for something cheaper and finding the Maxijet1200. I also remember when people had to buy plexi and cut up their cases if they wanted to show off their WC rigs instead of looking online and finding an array of "pre-modded" cases.
For you folks who have been dabbling in watercooling since the early days, what things did you do on your own or ideas you came up with that have now become commonplace and standard? What watercooling things do you look back on and think "my God, I can't believe I did that"?
For me, I can't believe I used plexi instead of acrylic for building a reservior. I also would not have used hilighters for UV dye if I'd known then I'd be cleaning nasty film out of my system.
