Issue with graphics card---screen shaking

I don't know if you guys do troubleshooting here...but maybe someone will know what this issue is.

My new computer, which I built with the help from some great people on this forum, is having an intermittent problem of "screen shaking." When it happens, my computer is still "usable" but the whole screen is violently shaking all over the place, making it difficult to read text.

It's happened about four times--the first was after I had changed the display resolution and restarted the computer. The entire screen shook for several moments until it finally stopped. The other two times occurred either after changing the screen resolution or upon exiting a fullscreen game. This morning it occurred after I unplugged a pair of headphones and it would not stop until I removed the HDMI cord from the computer and replugged it in. While it was happening, the top quarter of the screen was flashing black as well, which has never happened before. My audio, which is also supplied through the GPU's HDMI port, was cutting out, too.

Windows 7 Pro SP1
My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 7770, however in DXDiag it is listed as a 7700.
My display is an LCD HDTV, connected with an HDMI cord.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue? Is my graphics card defective? I'm thinking of reinstalling my driver since it is listed incorrectly in DXDiag. Could that be the issue?

What are the manufacturer and model of the tv? What driver version are you using? Have you tried a different hdmi cable?

Driver Version = 9.2.0.0 I believe there is a newer version, but I rolled back in order to see if it would fix the problem. Unfortunately I don't know how to reproduce the issue...I suppose I could change my resolution over and over until it happens, but it isn't reliable.

I have not tried a different HDMI cable. I will swap it out just in case it's the issue.
 
It could be a problem with the tv's build in scaler If it only happens when you change the resolution. It may help if you run all of your games at the tv's native resolution or use the scaler on the graphics card instead. (Not sure if this is possible with ati cards) You may want to consider using the onboard audio instead of the tv's dac. How old is the tv?
 
I just bought it a few months ago. It was refurbished, and it does have its issues, too. A couple of times when I've turned it on, only half of the screen turns on, and the other half has issues. Though when it was sent for repairs before I bought it, it was to fix an error with its menu system...not anything to do with the issue it's having now. It's only done this twice in the time I've owned it, and restarting the TV fixes it. Otherwise the television works correctly. I keep expecting it to suddenly die on me, though...that issue can't be a good sign.

I'll try changing my audio configuration.
 
Sounds like it is probably the display then. Here is a site i found while trying to determine your issue (http://www.badcaps.net). It seemed pretty informative, but there may be a better site. Most tv issues these days seem to be caused by cheap caps/other non screen components (take extreme caution and be aware of the electrical hazards if you don't know what you are doing and attempt a repair yourself, or go to a professional). You can try posting under displays? Not sure if it will receive more appropriate attention there. Bad caps can also interfere with the board, and if that was all they replaced the problems could persist.
 
I bet you're right...that it is due to cheap components. This model of television is very low priced for its size, (and on top of that, mine's already had some work done on it) so it likely has some parts that Hitachi skimped on. I'll read up on that site and definitely seek some advice there as well. Thank you for your help...it's much appreciated.
