issue with 6800

it started acting funny a few days ago... im in a game and the screen would freeze but not the game to a smudged screen.

after i restarted the computer today. then i couldnt boot back into windows. i used driver cleaner to get rid of my drivers and i was able to boot to windows. i tried the xtreme g 76.50 drivers and wouldnt boot so i cleaned it again... then use the official ones, 71.89
after that, same problem cant boot...
i tried using system restore. back to april 1st. and restore wouldnt complete. so nothing changed.

right now im driverless
what can i do at the moment...
 
Could be card failure (hardware), not a driver problem. If you've got an old spare videocard lying around, try putting that in to see if the computer boots. Also check if the molex power connector on the back edge of the card is plugged in tightly. I believe it is possible for them to loosen over time from heat expansion/contraction. Lack of adequate power plays havoc with GTs and Ultras.
 
My guess(since you have your 6800GT at 6800Ultra speeds) is a bad OC...
If that is the case, be a MAN, and DON'T RMA it...
Don't make other pay for YOUR mistakes...

i cant rma bro.... i oc'ed it..

also is there a program that will allow me to change the clock speeds back to default without drivers present
 
you can alwasy rma it. even if you oc, but the point that hes making is that you shouldnt cuase in reality you messed it up :). But its still rma able :). Just means when we buy more of there cards in the future we will have to pay more cuase of that shit.
 
i understand what your saying... but doesnt it only cost really likea fraction of the cost of what they charge?

Now that's a helpful way of resolving this guy's problem :rolleyes:

To the OP; have you tried cutting back you OC and seeing if that helps? How long have you been running your 'puter without any noticable problems?

If backing of your OCs don't help, then back up your data and do a fresh install of the OS. There could be a host of little things that you could tinker with to get things working, but assuming that you want a quick resolution I'd do a reinstall. Dload your service packs and other mission critical programs and driver packages as well, so that your downtime will be minimized.
 
lmao, yeah im about to oc mine tonight just havent done it yet cuase im working at burning in my ram and only want to blow one thing up at a time. :) hopefully i dont blow the card cuase thats to damn expensive
 
i got it back to 400/1100 seems to be working good.. im not gonna push it anymore... in fear i mite do more damage...
 
If you're OCing your videocard, get the nvidia tech demos for the 6800 and run then for a while (ie at least 2 hours). If you don't get artifacting then your OC is probably ok.
 
it mite have also been the drivers...

i was using the xtreme g 76.50 drivers.. and i was at 410/1130 i was using that for a few weeks...

rite now im using the 71.89 nvidia drivers.. at 400/1100
 
even with all these forums with there ocing explenations and how to unlock the other couple of vectors or whaterver there called im still struggling but ill get it and post how it does. :)
