Is this UPS good enough?

Depends on your system specs. I seriously doubt you're actually using anywhere near 1000W though, so as long as the wall draw of your PSU is less than 940W, you should be good with that UPS.

I think it will have plenty of juice for your build, but I might consider looking at one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842101067

Just got one myself and am loving it. I don't know much about the company that makes the one you're looking at, but APC is very reputable and they make a lot of enterprise level equipment, as well as consumer level stuff.

Thanks guys!! I'm running a core i7 EE cpu with a BFG GTX 280oc2...I might add another later and I've also connected a 30inch NEC to it. Do you think even with these specs I'll be safe? I'd hate to destroy my setup!!

Thanks again.

That UPS will be plenty even after you upgrade. Besides, if you overload the UPS (which you won't assuming you don't plug in an electric heater into it or something), the worst it'll probably do is shut down completely - no less harmful that accidentally unplugging the computer when it's on.

Eh, I think with that system plus the monitor, you might be getting a little close to the edge there. If you were to add a second video card, I think it would be a good idea to go with something beefier.

@Sockman: Oh okay thanks dude...haha no electric heater here.!!

@Zero82z: Really.....hmmm well if I actually reach near 1000 W thats the least of my worries. I've seen setups with dual 4870X2s and they were using like 750 PSUs....so wouldn't i technically be safe?

Thanks aagain.

That's considering draw from the PSU though. Your components won't actually use 1000W, but once you factor in the increased amount of power that the PSU draws from the wall (assuming the PSU is 80-85% efficient, that means that 15-20% of the power it draws from the wall is wasted as heat), plus the fact that you'll have a pretty hefty monitor connected to it as well, the actual power requirements from the socket will be higher than you might think at first.

Ohhhhhhh I gotcha I gotcha.....what if I get a second UPS for the monitor? Would that be feasible?

Thanks

I'm currently running a 20in and 24in LCD, my (slightly outdated) rig consisting of a C2D, 7950gt, 4gigs ram, 650w PSU, 4xHDDs and a DVD Burner, and my brand new server running 5xHDDs, and a raid card, and i'm drawing no more than 375w at PEAK load. You'll be just fine with a 1500va/940w UPS. I'll soon be upgrading to a GTX285 SLi, Core i7 OC'd Watercooled system instead of my current C2D rig, and I'm planning on keeping the same UPS. The only thing I'll change is switching my LCD's over to a smaller one (one of those ones that looks like a beefed up power strip). You don't need massive amounts of power - that 2200VA one is probably overkill. Unless you need to run your computer for an hour after the power goes out, you'll be fine with the 1500. Computers use a lot less power than people seem to think.

Thanks noozler,

An acquaintance of mine told me he was selling his at a very nice price so I decided to take it and save me the hassle of buying a new one. Plus APC man!!

Ah, well if you got it for a good price then its not a bad buy. But $750 retail or whatever it is would be a bit much :) Hope you're happy with it, thats what really matters in the end!

I currently have my Main rig with 11 hard drives, 2 19" LCDs' , Alesis M1 Active MK2 Speakers, 20 watt Desk lamp, my HTPC, my Xbox 360, GigE Switch, 10/100 Switch, cordless phone base, cell phone charger, Altec Lansing Speaker Dock for my Zune hooked up to my APC RS1200.

With everything on it hits 500 watts.

I would go with APC. they sent me a free UPS when my Back-Ups 1100 died.
