Im thinking of selling most of the two pc's in my sig to upgrade one to an athlon 64 system and one gig of ram. Since im keeping my 9800 pro, would it be much of a noticeable difference in gaming?

No. Changing CPUs won't make much of a difference at all, unless you're CPU limited, which you probably aren't with a 9800 Pro.
 
Increasing mem to 1G should give you a smoother running game. If you go from sigle channel to dual channel it should give you about 20% - 50% greater mem throughput. Will it be noticeable? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes and no. I would put another 512MB of mem in your present PC and use that for another year. It should be the most cost-effective solution.
 
Ok, probably upgrading the ram is what ill do then. The only problem is, the ram i have in my main pc is pc-2700, and i would rather have pc-3200. So i guess ill sell my existing ram and just buy a gig kit from newegg or something.
 
Yes a 64 will make a huge diff in gaming even the slowest a64 2800 is faster then Athlon xp 3200+ 1 Gig of ram will just make sure everything runs smooth as silk.
 
the gig of ram will make a difference but the processor won't do much.

it's mainly the graphics card and ram that do the most work in games.
 
I would say wait, just upgrade the memory right now. If you must upgrade something, the videocard would be a good place. But your 9800pro is still a very capable card...
 
Do the new a64s make use of duel channel? As far as I knew the axps didnt make use of duel channel.

I remember benchmarks comparing the dual channel models to non-dual channel processors and not seeing a noticable difference in performance. I think that the A64s are just Axp's with an integrated memory controller and as such, have all their memory bandwidth needs taken care of by just one channel of PC3200.

They do respond really well to low latencies though.
