I just put together my first Intel system in about 10 years, and I went with the C2Q Q6600. I went through newegg, and got the B3 stepping (no G0 lovin' for me). Anyway, With an ambient temp of 33C, I have idle temps of 48 - 51C for cores 1 and 2, and a few degrees cooler for the other two. This is with the stock Intel cooler.

I have a Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme, but haven't been getting much better temps. (The base is in serious need of some lapping, very poor contact area).

1 - Are these temps 'right' for a B3 stepping, or is there something else going very wrong?
2 - Is it normal for two cores to be up to 6 degrees cooler than the other two?

Velox, that sounds about right considering your ambient temps are at 33c. Having 2 cores with different temps is fine, your IHS probably isn't flat. No worries.

Agreed, that seems about right given your ambient. One thing to pay close attention to, if you haven't, is how you apply the thermal paste on a quad proc. There's a screen shot and info in the "how to OC your Core2/Quad" thread in the OC subforum. That might help a little.

when i removed and regreased my waterblock my temps evened out so their within a couple degrees of each other (q6600). they had been about 5 apart. follow the directions on the artic silver website and try to get the pressure on each mounting point even
edit: mine's a b3 also, jumped straight to 3.0 so you're not totally sol on ocing with a b3. 4x3.0 is niiice
