Is this even possible?

Hey guys,

I am looking at possibly switching to watercooling for my machine, but I am worried about space and room in the case. The thing is, my gaming machine is going to be staying in this case (Aspire X-Infinity) for sentimental reasons, so if I can't get it to fit, I'll stay with air cooling. I don't know the first thing about watercooling, but I have heard assorted parts is better than a pre-built kit. System is in the sig, pic of my cluttered machine below.

$250 budget
Must fit in case (pics below)
CPU, and hopefully 8800GTS GPU included in loop.
Mobility is not an issue, but I'd like to have that option for when I move in a few months.

As you can see, I have 3 hard disks in the hard drive rack, a floppy disk, and a DVD burner in the 5.25. Could I move the hard disks up to the the 5.25" bay with adapters and put a pump in the Disk rack space, and a 5.25" reservoir or T-line. I don't know where I'd but the radiator, as the case has an unlevel top. The top fan is already removed to accommodate the power supply so hoses can be routed to a possible radiator on the top.

Also, I am 100% open to heavily modding the case, as long as there is no major cosmetic or structural weakening of the case.

Thanks guys!

I was worried about trying to accomodate your needs until I saw that line. Got any more pics of your case, panel off/top view etc?

Would you consider having a rad/fans stickin out the back of your case on the existing 120mm grill(s)?

you can totally fit stuff in there... i got 2 rads, a pump, micro res and all the tubing inside my little p80. i can snap some pics for you if you want but basically i took out the HDD racks and popped 'em up where the floppy should be (don't have a floppy). My microres is in the 5 1/4" area (only have one burner) and pump is on the bootom of the case with a rad mounted on either side.

patience is a must... so are zip ties :)

This is probably your easiest approach to the issue. Here the only mod you'd really need to do it drill a couple holes for the tubing to pass through. Otherwise, I'd mount the rad (either internal or external) at the top; but you're a) limited by the intrusion of the PSU, and b) would have to mod the top/front (that butt ugly sorry :p) BMW ripoff looking thing. Although if you mount both fans and rad outside, and there's at least a small gap between the PSU and case top, you could probably get enough flow in there.

Also, more info on the setup would help...How many devices in the optical bays? If you only have one, working in a top mounted rad would be much easier. Lastly, if you're not averse to heavy modding, would you be possibly willing to build your own external box for the cooling stuff? That way you're back to ONLY having holes for the tubing to pass.

Hey guys thanks for your input. I can provide more pics later if needed.

Basically its that case in the pic. I have 3 Hard drives, 2 in a row beneath the 8800GTS and one above it (so I can get the PCI-E power plug in there). I don't think there's any way to remove the 3.25 HD bays without cutting, so if I needed to put a pump down there it'd have to fit between the rack walls (I think I can reach the SATA cables to the motherboard if they're sitting in the 5.25" Optical bays with adapters). I am open to modding, putting radiator in the rear 120mm fan spot (I'd prefer a larger radiator for better cooling if that would be better), etc. I don't want to remove any of the key attributes (front window, chessy BMW top, etc due to it being a gift from my fiance'). I am pretty handy with stuff, so would it be possible to remove the bottom of the case, insert a slotted or drilled vent in the bottom, extend the height via legs, and putting a larger radiator in there? I have resigned myself to the idea that I am not going to keep everything inside, but I want to relatively clean and mobile if needed (as in, if I move 30 minutes away I won't have to drain and remove the radiator).

Are there any examples of outside boxes for the equipment?.

I think I am going to use a T-line, a 120MM rear Radiator, and do some dremeling to the top of my case for a dual 120MM radiator.

Now... Can someone recommend a setup for 250ish? I'd like to cool the video card but I don't want to pay 125 bucks for a complete block from EK or DD. Is there a core water block that comes with RAM and IC sinks or can I get them elsewhere? I am relatively lost here.

Thanks.
