is this enough?

Yes but they are very unreliable brands. You could get a PS with less wattage but better brand and be safe.

Antec Earthwatts 430W

Example user review with said PS:

Pros: The amount of wattage on the 12v rail makes this thing have almost 396W on them alone, more than most PSU's of 500w+. Very high quality, quiet.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: GTX 460, Athlon II X4 OC, 2xDDR3, 7xfans, fan controller, more than enough power.

I would say go with a better brand. I had a power supply go bad after less then a year of usage. It was the best buy brand rocket fish. I thought it was good for 700w but, boy was I wrong. My computer wasnt even on, then I heard a electrical pop. Wasnt good, computer didnt turn on anymore. Glad it didnt kill anything else on my system, I would of been pissed, So go quality, thats where where you start off your build!

is your 550w bfg not getting the job done? If so what problems are you having?

psu shut down when i turn game settings to max under load. got this problem when i put this card in. doesn't shut down when playing on low settings tho.

That doesn't sounds like it's necessarily a power supply problem. Do you have any other problems with it? Anything in your system overclocked? What game(s)?

no, I don't over clock. i just removed my 6850 and before that a 9800gt and i overclocked those and played bfbc2 and wow, rift, dow2 and so on under load and nothing. but with this card this bfg just ain't feeding the card enough and is causing psu shut down when i try playing on high settings. so it's not the card or anything else. it's just the psu. I just know replacing it with one with more power will fix my problem.

its def a psu problem. The higher the graphics demands the more power it will draw. Those bfg psu's were decent but not top notch. You definitely need a new psu for this. See my previous post for some solid suggestions.

I'd go with a XFX or Corsair brand. Corsairs cs is enough for me to pay the extra look around the fourm about corsair problems they usually replace whatever got broke. Corsair hx850 is my next psu lol

Xfx is a great brand too. They just started and usually are cheaper but someone correct me if im wrong but theres i think is just rebranded seasonic psus which are one of the best psu compaines out there. They also have a lifetime warrenty but i would still go corsair just becuz of seeing how good there cs is. But that is my opinon you should look each psu up and read reviews/test on them so you can decide which one you like best :)

When selecting PSU's I would go with good brand over cheap price because they last longer many times in the long run also modules

Yes, there is such variety in what a psu is rated at and what it will truly provide. Go with the trusted quality, sea sonic, corsair, and even xfx all are excellent suggestions.

After reading around the forums with their great customer service. They practically replace the PSU and give you another one of the same model or better. I even seen them with customer mistake cutting the wire on accident, and replaced it. Very good customer service I am certain, and I am rocking a brand new cosair TX750. This will last me through a couple of builds I hope! Yeah dont go generic, learn from lessons learned. Lol.!

I wouldn't just go with Brands, as in every brand there is a line of PSUs that are going to be not that great (or downright junky). For the most part seasonic corsair xfx, antec are the big names and for the most part good, but still, don't just buy a brand.

Unfortunately for you, your 550W BFG was more like a 430W PSU by modern standards, as it only was rated for 432W on the 12V rails. The 480 is a power hungry card, and putting it with other 12V stuff on an aging PSU might have just been too much for the ok PSU.

A good 500W (rated for ~500W on 12V) would probably be fine, 600W plenty, 650W pushing overkill (even on a heavy OC). The Antec Neo Eco 520C is only $60 and has a single 40A rail which should be plenty for a 480, as it's a very fine PSU. If you prefer modularity and don't mind MIRs, the XFX 650W CAH9 is $60 AMIR on newegg, a very solid unit, with plenty of power and is either delta or seasonic OEM (I can never remember which as there are a few models of their 650W line).

Some other specific suggestions, Antec Truepower new 550/650 (only because the 550s price varies wildly for some reason, and the 650 is ~$80, but it is superior to the XFX and Corsair I'll recommend).
Corsair TX650 v2 (make sure to get v2, it's the newer superior line of PSUs for the same/cheaper price, $80 AMIR). All fine PSUs with good warranties (except XFX who has a reputation for bad CS).

Also, if I could suggest that if you're investing in a better psu, plan on getting a little extra overhead so you can expand later or even move to a new system and not have to swap again then.

the psu is NEVER a place to skimp or under spec. A quality psu that is over specced will last your for 5 yrs and allow you to upgrade whenever you want.

Just note that the pc power & cooling is a re-certified unit. Plus that unit is more expensive at the end of the day $59.99 + $10.18 shipping = $70.17, vs where as the Antec unit is $69.99 + free shipping - $20 mir ending up @ $49.99.
