Is this a good, basic solution?

I've been doing some research. My system is due to show up tomorrow and while I was planning on using the retail fan/sink, it seems that a lot of people reccomend going with something a little stronger. This came fairly highly reccomended and I was curious what you guys thought.

It says that its for a 3200+ XP and mine is a 3000+ A64(754). Is that going to make a difference? Also does anyone suggest anything else besides this or a similar heatsink/cooler stock case fan and PSU? I'm not planning on OCing. My system is a Asus K8N, 1gig corsair value select, BFG 6800, 120 gig sata HDD, ect.

I don't know how good it works, but that fan's ratings are very bad.
10.9 - 20.9CFM? I know it's a small fan, but that's a very small amount of air. Personally, I would go for a Thermalright XP-90. The XP-120 would be great, but it's a little too big I think.

Get the a good 90mm fan should get you somewhere between 30-40CFM. Or the Vantec Stealth 92mm only puts out 28CFM, (still 40% more than that one) but at only 20db should be nearly inaudible.

Its not a fan, its a blower. The reviews on it all seemed very good, and Toms reccomended it.

Its the same thing but the lite is a slightly different sink/model.

The ratings will be different for a blower instead of a center fan. For one, a center fan has a pretty good size dead spot where there is no air flow, to make up for this it has to push a higher cfm. Blowers on the other hand have not dead spot, so can push more air evenly.

However, I would not recomend this fan. Its a solid AL heatsink. Find something that is copper based or has a copper core. Plus, that HSF is for a socket 462 *P3, Amd XP, Duron, Celeron, etc* . The AMD64 has a different socket and attachment method. You'll need to find a HSF thats compatible for it. Such as this one:

Basically you want to make sure its compatible with the socket 754 connection.

Not sure which mobo your getting but this Zalman hsf is one of the best and quietest solutions out there. Just make sure it fits on your mobo.

Of the two which one do you guys reccomend? The prices are very similar and if the Zal is that much better I'll just get that. It appears that it fits my socket but I don't know about my particular Mobo.

Edit: After looking at the forum more the Zalman 7000 alcu is one of the most reccomended HSF. Gonna just order it now.
