here's HD Tach benchmark of one of my hdd. Is the big dip at ard 15gb area a big problem?

thanks

What is moduslnk?
I would not be concerned about that dip (drive was probably accessed at that time).

What kind of drive is this? (impressive access time)

i bought it off ebay and the seller said that its a Fujitsu MAU3147NC.

but the label on its states Worldisk and model no is MC03147SC800600X which i cant find anything on the web on it.

your controller is limiting the maximum transfer speed for that drive. It appears you are running it on a Ultra-2 SCSI controller (80MB/s maximum).

yup.. i know.

i'm using an Adaptec 39320 on a PCI 32bit/33Mhz slot. i know its gonna be limited.. but i can't understand the spike there.

i've got other Seagate Cheetahs which doesnt have this spike although i know they're limited by the PCI bandwidth.

Download some HD diagnostics and check for bad blocks.

might be a re-manufactured drive ?

Is this replicable across runs?

You appear to be capped by the SCSI bus, not the PCI bus. Have you got another cable you could use? What does the card report its "sync" as? Is there a terminator on the cable?

I've tried WD Diagnostic extended test. No errors detected.

i guess so.

Yup. Did the test for 3 times and all showed the same spike at the same area. I'm using the Adaptec rounded SCSI cable terminated at the end for all the tests.
